Re: Information Message

Mick F wrote: 10 Apr 2021, 11:07am I still say, I've never seen that information panel before this update.
That's because you were one of the few people using the very-old subsilver2 theme, sadly no longer supported since the release of phpBB 3.3.

The information popup arrived when phpBB 3.0 came out in 2007 with prosilver as the default theme, replacing the subsilver default theme from phpBB 2.0 (released in 2002).

Re: New posts search - now too many pages

Apparently the "New posts" list in phpBB 3 shows "posts added since you last logged out". It's not the same as "View posts since last visit" that was in phpBB 2.

If you stay logged in for a long time the list will keep growing.

Re: Forum Update Issues

The column layout is from the standard phpBB Prosilver style.

I could modify it, but all changes have to be repeated whenever the board is updated to a new version, so I'd rather leave things alone where possible.

Re: Forum Update Issues

I have Firefox 87.0 on Linux (Fedora 33) here, and it's snappy as anything else.

There is no use of node.js on this Forum, so I'm not sure where that message is coming from? It's a server-side thing, so are you using a proxy server, or Tapatalk, or a whacky Firefox plugin, or something like that?

Re: Forum Update Issues

Hadn't spotted as my browser was still using the cached icon.

Should be fixed now, thanks for the heads-up :)

Re: Suspicious new forum members

Agreed. The link URL may not even provide any useful information as to whether it's a dodgy or not.

It's also very easy to hide a dodgy-looking URL behind a shortening service, or hacked-site-redirect.

So I think we keep things as they are. The benefits massively outweigh any disadvantages.

I've just set "Allow use of links in user signatures:" to be "no".

Can you tell me more?

What sort of computer/device are you using?

Which web browser?

Re: My laptop, or has the forum typecast changed?

Yes, it's a balancing act.

To little moderation and the Forum fills with spam and abuse.

Too much moderation and people leave the Forum to go somewhere else.

I think the mods here get the balance about right :)

Re: Forum Update Issues

OK, no problem. I updated phpBB to the latest version, which caused complaints about too-small text on mobile devices, so I increased the font size by 10%. Most people seem to be happy now, but if there are any other tweaks I can do, happy to do so.

Re: Forum Update Issues

Almost certainly just like that.

Is there something you'd like to see changed?
