Re: Shimano 11 speed cassettes
Quite often you get the biggest 3 on an aluminum carrier, then the rest loose, or maybe a chunk of the next 3 rivetted together. This secondary chunk is easily split by grinding heads off the rivets if you have access to a dremel or angle grinder. I have a cs-R7000 105 cassette here for example, biggest 3 on alu carrier, everything else loose. The smallest 2 will have an integrated metal spacer. Oh, as above! Just saw the post with a table of cs-r7000

Ah I just saw that it has been re spaced TO 130mm, not from. That does limit options re chainsets somewhat

Re: Headset cap for Carrera Subway 2011-12
Honestly I'd go to any other bike shop and pick a standard one up. Half of them will even have some in the scrap bin. If you do order that one be sure to grease the bolt well as it purports to be T6 aluminum rather than the more usual steel.

Re: New groupset for an old Galaxy
What chainset do you have on it now and what are the chainring sizes? What front derailleur are you running? If you're running something MTB ish it should open up your options a fair amount and also make things a bit cheaper. My galaxies from early or mid 90s came with triple stx chainset which was middle spec Shimano MTB groupset. It's your rear spacing now 135mm? Please post some photos of your bike and gears/shifters etc.

I've seen some nifty internal routing, an ht2 crank spindle was doing double duty as the internal bb cable guide, gear cable was steadily sawing it in two!

Re: Charging Devices: Pass Through Battery Pack
Most power banks are less finicky about taking a charge than phones, so it will likely solve your issues. Depending on your usage I don't think it's worth getting a large power bank (20,000 mah or so) because then you'll probably have enough to last you for a couple of days and you can charge the bank more quickly at rest stops or overnight stops. I'd either take a small power bank to be charged with dynamo charging system (5,000 mah or so), or ditch the dynamo setup entirely and take a large power bank.

These don't look too bad -

I agree that most look fairly hideous these days. Rear derailleurs are the worst for this in my opinion!

Re: SLX BL-M7100 ispec ev brake lever .
Here is a compatibility chart showing shifters compatible with your brake lever.
Shifters of any other ispec type (II or B) attach differently so won't play with your brake lever.
You can get adapters that let you mix and match between ispec standards, but that deore 11sp shifter will be neater and still be of good quality.
It looks like deore sl-m5100-i is the highest spec 11 speed ev compatible shift lever. Anything above that in spec is 12 speed (I presume we're taking r/h shifter) Shifters of any other ispec type (II or B) attach differently so won't play with your brake lever.

Re: Hub/Freewheel problem
Putting a washer in actually helps the tightening process so that the threads are under sufficient elastic tension. They often also need to be in that spot for any hub seals to sit correctly.Gumwall wrote: ↑14 Feb 2024, 11:59am Excellent point, that certainly would have been a head-scratcher!
Simon, thanks for the photo. I was thinking the whole point of the locking nut was to resist any turning relative to the cone, so putting a washer between them seemed like throwing a spanner in, so to speak. But if that's where the washer probably was, that's where I'll put it back. Cheers.

Re: Compact workstand?
I really like the Minoura RS3000, I don't know if they make anything similar now. It might not be much smaller than your park but probably lighter being aluminum but very good quality and sturdy.
On looking around the RS5000 is still really available which looks very similar to the 3000. https://www.cyclinguk.org/cycle-magazin ... 20seatpost.
I've worked a lot with Feedback stands (Sport and Sport pro) and would not recommend them. The ones I've used have all been vertical post and the stand always gets in the way of the pedals turning. Several of the cast alu height adjust clamps have cracked, no quick release work clamp, and they're expensive!
If you have a spare wall these double up as pretty decent workstands as well as storage, obviously not for any heavy jobs but good for changing wheels/tyres, working on brakes/gears etc, almost everything except BBs in fact. Need better anchors into the wall than come supplied though.
