I usually fly around them behind a car !!! use them as protection. I just found faster is safer !! At least until the 'shield' vehicle stops suddenly and unexpectedly, and especially if its brake lights are also faulty or sunned out -- as I discovered the hard way once. Ride slightly to the side :D...

Just avoid max crossovers where possible, some bikes/setips cope better than others.

Actually I would prefer a plain set of forks with no suspension, seems i am in the minority though :(
Why, simpler, lighter, cheaper & cant see the need for suspension.

Instead of Ross on Wye I would head to Monmouth, Usk, Pontypool, Pontypridd & Bridgend to miss the heads of the valley road.
I also know them roads well so used to riding them.
The A48 is a good option as well

Sometimes the squeal can also be caused by 'play' in the brakes. make sure they are adjusted properly and tight.
