Re: tablet for touring

Sorry I don't have it with me right now. I will post more details later. It was about ten quid I think.

Re: tablet for touring

I took a Nexus 7 (new model) on our five month tour round Britain this summer. I added a cheap blue tooth keyboard for typing the blog. I really couldn't fault it in any way. The battery life was adequate and we used a top up battery for backup. The keyboard (I'm typing on it right now) was excellen...

Re: Decent bike shop in Taunton?

Well Ivan, the mechanic at Ralph Colman really came up trumps. I had a call this morning at 8:50am to say the job was done and I could collect the bike. They also did us a special deal because we are raising money for charity. Top bloke and top shop. I have raised their score to ten out of ten.

Re: Descent bike shop in Taunton?

Well that was an interesting experience. Thanks for you reponses. I went to Bicycle Chain first. Explained that we were in the middle of a six month tour and just passing through and that I needed a new chain and rear casette fitting. The assistant showed absolutely not a flicker of interest in our ...

Decent bike shop in Taunton?

We are taking a break on our round Britain cycle tour. We are staying with my sister in Taunton for a week and I could do with changing the chain and rear casette. Can anybody recommend where to go?

Thanks

You will know it's a sign of getting old if you still take the tent. :D

Re: Charging your phone or tablet on camping tour…

I've just bought the Tecknet Powerbank 15000mAh model. Tested it yesterday on the Nexus tablet. It took it from 18% to fully charged using about half the battery. That should leave enough for a few phone charges too. It's very neat and compact. From what I have read on many forums it's a better solu...

Re: Tour report to make you scream?

This journal was featured on Crazy Guy last week. It is a great example of the sort of blog you want to read - because it is very funny. As a bike ride it is not a great success but as an entertaining read it is: https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page/?o=3f&page_id=91350&v=7G Example: &qu...

Re: Advice needed re: pannier sizes for front rack

Sorry but I would disagree. Having more space inevitably means carrying more stuff and in my mind that isn't a good thing. Of course I don't know your particular circumstances but my focus is always to be pairing the kit down to a minimum within the limits of comfort and safety. What extra kit do yo...

Re: Touring Wales

I used to live in Mid Wales close to the A470 and cycled on it as a matter of course. Yes some of the traffic is fast but it isn't busy by many standards and it is very scenic. You will have a tough climb a few miles south of Dolgellau but the view as you come down the other side is one of my favour...

Re: Getting the willies!

Good luck and don't worry about worrying, it's normal. We normally camp but we have a very relaxed attitude to it. It goes: Camp, Hostel, B&B, Hotel. Hasn't failed us yet.
