Thankfully I didn't touch the A30 on my travels. Did hit he A82 (Scottish Land) which for some reason was vey quiet.

Re: some more routes to perus - chepstow thru to whalley
The route you have from Westhoughton to and over Tockholes are some right climbs, I would stick to the A6 from Westhoughton, cycle up the A6 through Chorley then head over through Wheelton (junction 8 M61) and come out by Witton Park in Blackburn.
If you let me know the date that this leg is I can meet you somewhere close to Westhoughton, I Live in Blackburn.

12 miles Penzance to Lands End...cycle it....!!!
Accomodation I havnt used but booked for my LEJOG in May/June...talked to lady who runs it...very welcoming??
I stayed here when I did my LEJOG, fantastic accommodation, and it is only 300 metres from the start point. I cycled from Penzance Train Station, I then had a cracking night sleep, 10 out of 10.

indy wrote:Apologies for the belatedness of this reply but what was your thinking behind using a CX bike to do the LEJOG?
Is it as simple as that's the bike you own?
Did you have any issues problems specific to the CX bike? I noticed from your images that you didn't seem to have much luggage on the bike or mud guards etc.
Cheers
It was the bike that I had, and I travelled very light, I laid out the kit I wanted to take with me and then was vey ruthless, don't need that and don't need that etc. The only issue that I had was the gear cables that snapped on "The Shap".
No mud guards as they weren't needed.
Hope you enjoyed the blog.

God Morning Mcgroa,
I did LEJOG unsupported on a cyclocross with handlebar bag on panniers, check out my web page www.darrenlejog.weebly.com you find the bike that I used.
But what you will get from the members on here is some excellent advice on what bikes they have used.
Enjoy it, I did, loved the freedom that it gave me.

Re: Is there a LEJOG route that takes in...
hi Tony,
I used a number of Travelodges on my journey, I payed nothing over 25 quid as they were in the sale. Keep checking their website as there are loads of deals, some at present for 19 quid
Check out my website / Blog for more info on the ones that I used: www.darrenlejog.weebly.com
There is now a Travelodge in Fort William.

Re: Good B&B in Fort William Under £65 per night
Hi jules,
There is now a Travelodge in the centre of Fort William, opened last year I do believe, I have just looked on their site and a double room is costing £46 per night, they are not top of the range but its a bed in a nice clean room.

Coll,
There is a sale on at the minute with Travelodges, have a look for some dates to get the feel of the prices.

Re: Transporting Bike via Train
There are specific areas of the Trains where the bikes are put, usually there is some sort of hook from the ceiling where the front wheel is hung from.
It certainly is like that on Virgin Trains, and the cross country service.

Finally finished my Blog
Well after 17 months I have actually finished my write up on my LEJOG. After being hit and runned in Wick I sort of lost all enthusiasm in every thing about the ride.
I have now decided that this epic journey needs to be logged.
If you would like to read it the link is: http://www.darrenlejog.weebly.com
