Re: Danger Alert - Portway Bristol

Thanks for the heads up. Could have been very nasty with the traffic under there. One other area worth mentioning in Bristol is the new fangled coned off cycle lane on the Clifton Triangle running down towards the Wills Building. There are at least two quite dented manhole covers right in the middle...

Re: Ribble

Hi That's a really annoying thing to happen. There may be a genuine reason for delay but little excuse for stating an item was "in stock" when it clearly wasn't. I've just demanded a refund for a faulty item under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 but I had paid by credit card so I have options...

Re: Shimano gear cable end markings

Thanks for all the further replies - really informative. When I looked up the part number of the "replacement" cable ie the one marked R I found this page https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/product/service-upgradeparts/shimano/Y60098911.html It appears that the originally supplied S marked cab...

Re: Shimano gear cable end markings

Y60098911

Thanks you might have answered the question. I looked up that part number and can see that has an R on the end cap and a product called Optislick which came with the levers has an end marked S.

Doesn't answer the question about the different sized ends though

Shimano gear cable end markings

Morning I recently fiited a set of Shimano R3000 STI levers to my road bike. The gear cables on these are concealed under the bar tape and there is a sort of upside down keyhole arrangement on the outside of the lever where the cable is threaded through the lower larger section and is pulled into th...

Re: ebikes on BBC Click

My Swytch kit turned up today. Looks neat enough but a little too late so up for sale on this site.

Re: ebikes on BBC Click

I have bought a Swytch bike kit - the 35 KM Eco kit as a birthday present for my brother - he is fine on the flat but struggles on hills and also has a bike that he is very comfortable with and would not want to change. So from that point of view this kit seemed to fit the bill. Paid for it beginnin...

Thanks for all the answers. As I say no great loss as I'll reuse the existing.

Re: SLR brake cable housing problems

It's interesting.

On the length that originally cracked - so long enough to reach rear brake - in some sections it did not crack when bent but in others it cracked - with an audible snap - at what I would estimate to be a bend radius of approx 50mm.

Maybe I got a faulty batch?

SLR brake cable housing problems

I'm fitting some new Shimano R3000 brifters to my old Raleigh 531 road bike to replace some 9 speed Tiagra where the gear cables came out of the side of the shifters. The new kit came with SLR brake housing. It's almost matt black compared to the housing that is currently on the bike, which by contr...

I suppose it's possible but as I said other bikes have been stored in there with no such effect

Re: Spokes spontaneously snapped

Thanks Alex I missed that. Lot of information there and if nothing else my situation adds to the mystery. I keep several bikes in the same garage mostly with considerably older, harder used wheels and this has never happened before. If anyone is interested I can take further photos - realise that th...

Spokes spontaneously snapped

dawes spokes.JPG Took my Dawes Galaxy out of the garage yesterday in preparation for a tour only to find that 2 of the spokes on the front wheel were snapped in half. They definitely were not damaged in the garage and appear to have spontaneously snapped. They are not bent in any way- just snapped ...
