Re: Bike to dog attachments - whats good ?

you don't need any special attachments. I been cycling with dogs for many years, usually on towpaths and off-road tracks. Tie the lead to the seat post, and adjust the length so that the lead does not extend past the front axle. All the dogs I've cycled with picked it up very quickly and are soon tr...

Re: suspension seatposts

Hi, Can't decide between the Thudbuster LT or the Suntour NCX SP-12. Obviously there is a cost factor, but that aside has anyone here actually ridden both and can compare? Thanks... I can't compare as the Thudbuster is too pricey for me, but I have a NCX SP-12 on my front suspension hybrid, which i...

Re: thorn audax mk3

not much of an issue, on mine ( largest frame size ) the clamp fits between the bottle bosses and I needed to use two small washers under the bottle cage.

Re: waterproof soles?

I have a pair of Shimano MT90's and they are waterproof, the cleat slots are waterproofed with a stick on patch that you attached after fitting the cleats. I thought they were great when I first got them, but soon realized that the last thing you want when cycling in summer rain is a waterproof shoe...

Re: Tyre choice - Continental Difference

However there is a Continental Tour ride for £13.99 available and a Touring Plus at £17.56. Has anyone any experience of these tyres? Robert. I have some Touring Plus in 28's that I put on my audax bike in the depths of winter, I have found them to be bullet proof, and offer excellent grip, but I p...

Re: Clipless shoe and peadal combo?

I would say they are fine; I started with MT22 shoes and M324 pedals a couple of years ago, as I wasn't sure I would like the clipless thing. Now I'm a convert I have the M324's on my hybrid, and M520's ( a basic double sided spd pedal ) on my audax bike. There is a slight inconvenience with M324's ...

Re: Handlebar Position for Touring

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c28/kevin5302/Thorn_audax.jpg When I first build my bike I started with the bars level to the saddle, but found it more comfortable to have them a couple of inches lower. As others have said, "we are all different". For me the lower bars allow me to achie...

Re: Powerful long drop (57mm) calipers - recommendations?

I have the cheaper R450's on one of my bikes and the one time I really really needed to stop, they did me proud.

As the only substantial difference between the R450's and R650's is the supplied Blocks/Shoes, I think they are a bargain at £21 for the pair. ( here )

Re: Butterfly bars

There is a variation to butterfly bars often called "comfort" or "trekking" bars, that are the other way around to butterfly bars and more importantly have straight bits near the clamp for mounting controls. e.g. http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/humpert-comfort-revoshift-handlebars-254...

An inclinometer, I happen to have access to a digital inclinometer so have used that in the past, but a basic inclinometer can be had on ebay for a few pounds.

Re: Routeplanner uk

www.Cyclestreets.net seems to work OK.

and as of yesterday, Google Maps now has a Bicycle option on it's directions and also a "bicycling" layer that adds cycle paths to the map.

Re: The Lancaster canal

Ok thanks for that, the ride will be on my agenda if the weather ever picks up this summer. Kevin you say that the canal stops 4 miles short of kendal, can you cycle the remaining four miles off road into kendal as i will be using my mountain bike and wanted to avoid any of the dreaded tarmac lol! ...

Re: The Lancaster canal

I have cycled it from preston to carnforth and i always thought the proper canal ended there? How far is the section from carnforth to kendal and is there any proper towpath after carnforth. Carnforth to Kendal via the canal is about 18-20 miles. The navigable canal stops at Tewitfield Marina ( abo...

Re: The Lancaster canal

Some parts are good, such as the bit between Lancaster & Carnforth ( part of national route 6 ) but much of the rest is just a just a basic dirt track. I have cycled much of the section north of Carnforth and it's not too bad as the towpath is reasonably wide, and quite quiet, but you do need to...

Re: M771 XT Rear Mech - Cable Adjuster

I fitted a Ritchley Gear Cable Adjuster on my M773 XT Rear Mech, it works well. I should think it would be just the same on the M771 version. I don't recall were I got the adjuster, but they are easy enough to find on t' internet. http://www.charliethebikemonger.com/ritchey-gear-cable-barrel-adjuste...
