Re: Fixed Wheel LEJOG

Did it from north to south on Charge plug single speed, travelled fairly light, unsupported but weather was grim in April and we had to carry extra layers. Stayed at b&bs mainly. Knee went with day n half to go so swapped to road bike. Took us 9 days. Fairly straight forward, tho not fixie, unti...

Re: 1st time Lejog. Any last minute tips/advice??

If you're supported it should be a breeze but funnily enough your only problem may be wind as there's little you can do about it. I'd take an extra front wheel and a few tyres (maybe even a bike?), as well as advice above, if I had a car along. The map option on my smart phone was invaluable.
Enjoy

Re: 10 Day Route advice

Probably just a quirk of BRT but you know that bikes are not allowed on the Edin Ring Road?

Re: JOG to Inverness Taxi share

You can a get a b&b in wick, a train to wick and it's only 16 miles to Jog, which if you give her a few quid your landlady may well drive you to.
A lot less hassle and probably cheaper too. I think the train is about £12 single?

Re: Chamois Creme ???

No matter what you use, if doing around a 100mile days, you're going to get chaffing. The asos stuff gets great reviews and I've also used the butter recommended above. Sudocreme is good for the evening to get a bit of the sting out :)

Re: Training for sub 10 day LEJOG

Having just returned from doing the Jogle in 9days on a single speed (well apart from Cornwall where things didn't go to plan) I'd say fitness wise a 50 mile and 70 mile each week for last 4 or 5 should be enough if you're fairly fit- I'm 42 and fairly fit but no iron man. Prior to that I was doing ...

Re: Weather in April

Ha, on our JoGLE last week we were constantly asked by people why we hadn't done it the week before when the weather was glorious :) If we'd delayed it by two days we would have been trapped in snow drifts in Scotland As it was, one of the scariest days of may life was just 8 miles from Moffat where...

Re: 8 day LEJOG in August

I think it adds 4 miles or so, but avoiding the hilly section of the a38 as it enters Bristol by going via weston super on A370 was a good move, else seems ok to me. Shap is harder northwards apparently but it, like much of cornwall, is just a hill drag

Re: Carry that weight

Don't understand why you're taking a towel when you're not camping? We've just returned and I took similar to you- with lotions  it weighed similar on a saddle bag and rucksack. Some nasty weather too. A merino jumper was gd lightweight warm option for evenings, and wore jeans- couldn't bring ...

Re: Clothing advice

Just bought a gore oxyygen jacket, waterproof, breathable small- survived that nasty storm that we timed our trip through and was great as windjacket on warmer days- not cheap but quality.£90
