Re: Alternatives to Shimano BR CX-50 Cantilever

I have a couple of pairs that I’d be willing to part with.

Re: Does a Brompton fit in a Toyota Yaris?

If the gearbox is all that is wrong with the A Class I would get it either rebuilt or replaced with a used box.
As the old man used to say the cheapest car is always the one you already own.

Always used these guys - honest & a great service.

Re: Smaller chainrings than FD was meant for?

You shouldn’t have any problems at all with the ring sizes you mention.

Here’s my very similar Dura Ace 7700 mech with 38/24 chainrings which is well and truly outside what Mr Shimano advises!

Front mech swapped out for XT786 follows the shape of the rings much better, shifts very well and didn’t require any filing like CJ’s
I didn't realise this was possible. What is the BCD of the inner ring?

Mobil XHP 222 grease is also good. Slightly heavier at NLGI 2, adheres well and resists water-contamination and rust
You can get proper data sheets as well, which is always a good sign for me
Challenging to find in small quantities, I buy mine here

Here’s mine Ultegra 6604 cranks with 38/24 rings

The shift upto the 38 ring is slightly hit & miss due to the cage being so high, have ordered an XT 786 like the one in CJs pic to swap out the Dura Ace mech.

but which FD are you using?

cheers

FD-6603 (9 speed chain & cassette) & bar end shifters.

Chainrings are TA - cranks are 6604 (think they are the same though just a different finish).
