Re: Towns and Villages in Wiltshire

Do you mean a list of places I’ve been to it’s in my first post I edit it when I’ve done more of them. I like the funny names I’ve got Sodom, Cuckoos Knob to do yet.

Re: Towns and Villages in Wiltshire

Got 3 today I think I’m going to change my rule and make it 3 a week not one per ride. The Strand, Hilperton, Staverton. Just riding around see a road and took it to see where I ended up just like a mystery tour. :D

Re: Towns and Villages in Wiltshire

I’ve had problems finding some village/hamlet signs but they are signed from a main road so I have used that or village notice boards. The village Ireland and Sleight had no sign but found houses with the name on it I found Little London on a gate post. I’ve found some villages I know exist not in t...

Re: Towns and Villages in Wiltshire

The only ones that count are the ones i take photos of. I went through 3 that could of counted to take the one I wanted. As I get older and it gets more difficult maybe my rules will change. I do Audax rides so this is a nice way to forget about the clock. 22 miles took me 3hrs 30min what with coffe...

Re: Towns and Villages in Wiltshire

The farthest so far is 55 miles the shortest could be 2 miles (that one took me 20 miles) strange that isn’t it :). Is the Tyenham you mention the ghost village that’s in Dorset isn’t it? Maybe a longer ride out to visit it getting a village on the way.

Re: Towns and Villages in Wiltshire

I’m lucky I live in Devizes which is right in the centre of Wiltshire. If I lived on the edge of Wiltshire camping would of been a good idea.

Re: Towns and Villages in Wiltshire

I was thinking it would take me between 6 to 10 years. I’m nearly sixty now so I was thinking of doing the longer ones now and leaving the shorter one for when I get older.

Re: Towns and Villages in Wiltshire

If I change from an Apple phone to android using google photos I won’t loose the photos. One location per ride will make the challenge last longer.

Re: Towns and Villages in Wiltshire

I’m using my iPhone to take the photos so they go into the iPhone album but backing them up on google photos. I’ve typed the list of villages from the back of the atlas, a in one paragraph, B in another and so on all they way through the alphabet. Each time I go to a place I Mark it off on the list ...

Towns and Villages in Wiltshire

I don’t really have time to tour so I set myself up a challenge in Wiltshire to cycle to all the town and villages only one per ride. I got an atlas of Wiltshire and wrote down all the town and villages there are 968 altogether. At each place I prop my bike up on the sign and take a photo some of th...

Re: The whole glasses thing

If I use my reactalight glasses on a road at a certain time of day. My head is in sunshine but the side of the road where I’m peddling is in shadow my glasses go dark and I can’t see bugger all in the shadows so I can’t see the road properly. Given up on the reactalights and using my normal clear pr...

Re: Will a Rohloff tensioner cope with double ring

I changed to a Rohloff hub from a derailleur system and kept the old rear mech with no problem using a triple chain set using the big ring and the middle ring. I used the small chainring to take the pressure of the chain when I folded it. I have a 26” rear wheel.

Re: Komoot

When I use the voice turn instructions on my iPhone the iPhone screen is off to save battery but turn instructions pop up on the screen the same time I get voice instructions. I won’t let Komoot do a route for me if I can help it. I use a route planner to plan my route and send that to the iPhone. I...
