Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Turkey has as much chance of joining as does Iran. And assisting poorer neighbours is called being part of the human race. Ignore that lesson from history at your peril! The EU is still recovering from taking on the old Iron Curtain countries when Communism collapsed. We're still carrying Greece as...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Hi Folk :) , So if the group of Balkan countries get the right to join the E.U. that will make that august body a better club to belong to? With more begging bowl states surely the problems posed to the nett contribution countries will be that much greater, which with so few members paying the true...

Re: The right way to handle Scottish Independence?

The Gaelic language and the Scots language must be promoted to create a passion for independence, like in Wales I wouldnae ban English if I were the Taosiach, mind Every time I hear Taoiseach pronounced my hindbrain chimes in with Teeschachtel , which might best be translated from German as tea-cad...

Re: FILUMS ..to see.

Far fetched? You know it's science fiction right? ;) I really enjoyed The Expanse, having read all the books I'm not completely convinced by the actor playing Holden but in both the books and the series I'm a fan of Amos. Season 4 out in December. (+1 for Amazon for picking it up after it was cance...

Re: FILUMS ..to see.

Good series of books as well (quite a lot of them now). I found the storyline a bit far fetched but not enough to spoil the story. I agree excellent series as well (I've only seen series 1 & 2 which are available on DVD, series 3 released on DVD soon or recently). Ian Far fetched? You know it's...

Re: Flu Jab - side effects?

Coots ain't, they have feathers.

---o0o---

Had mine yesterday morning (jab not feathers), starting coughing last night. It lasted about an hour until a Fisherman's Friend took care of it. Must have been the vaccination - can't have anything to do with an afternoon of woodwork.

Re: Flu Jab - side effects?

When I was a kid I had chicken pox twice. I just read that the virus can remain dormant in nerve endings for years and re-emerge as shingles when you get on a bit and your immune system declines.

This senior-citizen bit's a riot, innit?

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Mother's Pride for breakfast'

I'd have thought the British public were a bit more discerning, now, than that? Years ago I read a letter sent to a UK paper by a bloke who had taken his family on holiday to Brittany for a couple of weeks. He wrote something like this: "we took three family-sized loaves of Mother's Pride, and...

The higher the amp-hours the longer the charge will last. I wouldn't care to run a 36v motor on 48v, though.

Re: Flu Jab - side effects?

I'd say that feeling a bit off-colour isn't a side-effect at all, but a direct result. Vaccination forces the body to fire up its countermeasures, so it's normal that you feel a bit grim; e.g. fever is a countermeasure. The vaccine doesn't contain dead or inactive viruses but just non-viable fragmen...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Hang on a sec! No negotiations from me, other than "we should never have joined in the first place". As the Irishman* said to the person asking directions: "Well, I wouldn't start from here if I were you!". * Why does it always have to be an Irishman? Because our wit is too subt...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

It's a small step from European Union to Union of Europe. Actually it's a bloody big step - too many big fish in small ponds wanting to keep their perks, too many mendacious populists stirring the good-old-days cauldron, too many idiots ready to believe every delicious calumny about Brussels and to...
