Re: Why's my back brake so rubbish?
Front brakes are always more effective than back. IIRC about 2/3 of braking force is supplied by the front brake & only 1/3 by the rear.

Re: How to prepare for an organised EVENT (soon) from zero start?
If your bike is a road bike: Get yourself a pair of Lycra cycling shorts, the kind with shoulder straps. Wear them without underpants - the shorts are designed for cycling, underpants aren't and have all kinds of seams in the wrong places - and provide yourself with some kind of skin lubricant, e.g....

Re: speed and rhythm
I am very much a rhythm type rider, the first 100 yards of any ride seems to determine my speed for the rest of the ride. For example I started a ride last year that went straight into 1000ft of climbing in the forest of Bowland, I crawled up at about 8mph and was delighted every time I got up to 10...

Yoofs buy Lps just for the kudos or art work but never play them as they dont have a record player. We've got a loft full of records - LPs, EPs and singles. A few dating back to the early 60s when I first started buying them. Well worn and tired, but we've not had a record player for twenty years. ...

Re: Went for a ride
I suppose we're rather spoilt around here: the nearest city is Strasbourg, around 50 km away. We live on the edge of a thickly-forested conservation area that stretches over 100 km end-to-end: quiet roads are easy to find, cycle paths are common and the Vosges mountains are within easy distance on a...

Two points:
1. Offered one of these I know which one I'd take, and it wouldn't be the $1000 effort
2. Last time I developed a constant 300W on the flat Shimano hadn't discovered indexing
