Not much advice on chain wear though?
I can't really offer you advice on chain wear as I use 9 speed and alternate two chains at 500 mile intervals which is entirely different to the way you carry out your chain maintenance.

I can't say whether others need to adjust their rear mech barrel adjuster but I do.

Re: Seatposts, layback, and a daft idea
I've used one of the Thompson laybacks - astonishing quality! Having fitted one recently I fully agree with you. Thompsons seatpost offered me the amount of layback I needed which is more than the Velo Orange layback seatpost and the System EX which I had fitted and the degree of adjustment it offe...

on all the other geasr, yes, on top gear, typically no; the gear cable is slack and the mech is against the stop screw. That is what it is there for.
cheers
When you say stop screw, do you mean the " a tension screw"?

Re: 10 speed chain wear - what to do?
That's how I understand it Mick. For the purpose of a chain change where the limit screws are already set correctly I have never had to adjust anything other than the barrel adjuster.

Re: 10 speed chain wear - what to do?
I thought rear indexing was achieved by barrel adjustment. http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/workshop-shifting-problems-20350/ http://sheldonbrown.com/derailer-adjustment.html Anytime I change a chain I release the cable from the rear mech, screw in barrel adjuster fully then back it off a half ...

Tektro rl520 levers + bar end shifters + V brakes = better than cantis :D or could it be; Tektro rl520 levers + bar end shifters + V brakes = about ten times the price/faff of a single mini-V brake?  the 'best' solution usually depends on where you start from, doesn't it? cheers And ...

Re: Which bike to better my Trek 7.3fx?
I'd like a proper touring bicycle, designed for going long distances on the road, lighter than the trek (they do seem to be quite heavy!!), fast and comfortable! I'd most likely be using the bike for lighter day rides throughout the year so to make it worth getting another bike it needs to be whizz...

Re: snyper rims cracking at spoke eyelets
We had some rims on here (can't remember what?) that were cracking round all the driveside rear eyelets, that was a rim problem. . There was a thread with DRC rim failure and many threads on the Mavic A319/A719/Open Pro Rim eyelet failures that lead to a lot of tourers and Audaxers moving to Rigida...

If the OP cannot form a definitive opinion when he can physically inspect it I think the only safe opinion to be offered is that of JohnW to have it independently examined.
