Dawes Galaxy - What year?
Hi all, My father has given me his Dawes Galaxy to sell on. To do this I would like to know its year of manufacture and if it has 531 tubing - there are no Reynolds stickers on the frame. The bike is blue with a opalescent finish that goes green in the right light. It has a Deore group set and quill...

Re: How to get up a 20% slope ?
Got a bit further up the slope today - made sure I was in the lowest gear before it gets really steep. I had a nice gear and cadence but still stopped. I think I have identified the problem - low mental determination. Just looking at hills makes me back off on the tandem, so I'm told by my co-pilot....

How to get up a 20% slope ?
I am reluctantly changing my commuting route thanks to being nudged by a car and ending up with a brake lever around 4cm into my thigh. The new route is a fairly quiet, narrow road that climbs pleasantly before reaching 20% uphill for a bit. After only a week of trying this I can get past the 20% si...

Shimano sandals - anyone doctored them ?
I have worn the old SD60 Shimano sandal until they have fallen apart. I have just bought some SD66s and they are excessively clumpy (this from a not particularly fashion conscious lady but even I have some standards). Has anyone tried to cut down the fabric and make them more 'sandal like' ? I have ...

Best camping mattress that converts to a chair ?
We have toured with a Thermarest and a Downmat and chair adaptors for a while now. Sadly last tour they both developed faults and need replacing. Back support while sitting and the depth of a Downmat as I sleep on my side are vital to keep me happy while cycle touring. As we tour with a tandem, size...

How to stop my bell tinkling on the move
I recently bought a smart new bell - the traditional style. It looks great but every time I go over a sharp lump/hole it gives a half hearted ring. Around town its kind of annoying but more than 10 miles will drive me mad. Any ideas how to stop it apart from getting a different one ?

Re: Tyre removing tool
Thanks folks....
I did just try my rather useless LBS which told me a tool for refitting tyres did not exist so I will try the Cranks Brothers speed lever and see how I get on.

Tyre removing tool
I had a telescopic 'magic stick' that helped me remove and re-fit tyres which sadly now has a vital part missing. The only thing similar I have found online is the Crank Brothers Speed Tyre Lever (see link) but it is made of plastic, not metal, so seems rather flimsey. Anyone know where I can get a ...

Re: Peak district - hills OK ?
Thanks - we can do 1 in 5 for a short while on the tandem but 1 in 4 is a definite no-no. We will see how it goes...........

Peak district - hills OK ?
We are kind of planning an Easter weekend break based at Bakewell or Matlock to cycle (on road) around the Peak District. I'm starting to think this is slightly mad as we will be camping (v. cold nights still) and the hills could be nasty. So as we have never been there before are the hills short an...

Re: Bike to work scheme limit excess
My partner bought a £2000 electric bike from 50Cycles to aid a long commute. I believe it was a £1000 bike with £1000 of accessories which was acceptable

Re: Speed in Royal Parks
My partner commutes a 40 mile round trip a couple of times a week through Windsor Great Park on an electric pedal assist bike. Added to the speed issue, apparently the park is not open to non resident pedestrians/cyclists after darkness falls. As its a bit slopey I expect he exceeds 20mph now and ag...

Promoting cycle safety ?
This is how we promote cycling in Slough ! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-15512540 Whilst I agree that undertaking is potentially dangerous this is no way to encourage people to cycle. My partner is on a local council group but he was over-ruled when he complained it was negative and...

I'm sure loads of people have done this but some friends have just done a similar route http://www.abikejourney.com/ . They have an informative website and I'm sure would be happy to answer questions !!
