Re: Crash on Cyclepath

Is this a dedicated cycle path. If so, what is the legal status of a cycle path. The reason I ask is that it is an offence to obstruct a highway ( I was recently reading about this re blocking off a driveway). Could you you claim that someone has obstructed the highway, in which case it might be a ...

Re: Crash on Cyclepath

Thanks folks for replies. I'm seeing very similar to yourselves, is it a council problem, or a homeowner problem or even as Hemo says a managment agancy problem. Interestingly the estate is new, built a couple of years ago. As Hemo says, I believe the railings aren't owned by the households (the rai...

Its a Raleigh RSP RX480 (The older original one). I only use it in built up areas, for country roads I have a better 'high' beam that I use with it, but that's too much for normal night time cycling.

Crash on Cyclepath

Hi, I had a crash on a cycle path last night. The crash happened because of a metal railing fence that had become detached from one side allowing it to swing out onto the cycle path. Due to the railings being black I didn't see it until the last moment unfortunately hitting it. The railing was only ...

Getting blinded from behind

I cycle 8 miles to and from work through country lanes with no street lighting at all. I also have to do a number of right hand turns that are on a straight roads. Now when approaching said right hand turns, a high percentage (84% last year) of drivers approaching me from behind either have there he...

Re: Dazzling motorists

Not sure if anyone else suffer from this problem, but I see a number of motorists that fail to drop their main beam when approaching both pedestrians and cyclists (not sure about horse riders as I don't do that!). One form of technology that is now out there on street is the Main Beam Assist functio...

Out for a cushy ride: Cyclists Special, 1955

Found this on You Tube:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP1KxPjh4RM&feature=related Dunno if anyone else has posted it here, but worth a watch. I really like the bit at the end when they talk about the cyclist not being an enemy of the train operator. Just wish I could go back to those days... c...

Think! has a contradiction on it's site

I was looking at the police's web site the other day, and got 'linked' off to the the Think! web site, the TV ad's web site for drink driving / speed etc. Remember those 'Speed Kills' ad's? Well in the cycle section on the Think! web site, there advice for motorist's is :- Don't squeeze past cyclist...

I had a very similar problem with my Carrera Karaken SE. Good bike, but a bout a month after getting it, the krank went all tight. The bike was fitted with one of those new sealed bearing case things (i'm showing my age now). They didn't have a replacement in stock ,so they said 'we'll get you one, ...
