Very much at your own risk. You would have to consider probable accomodation difficulties, cafes and pubs now will be closed, carrying your own food supplies, and if you are unfortunate enough to have a medical problem or accident, the medical services are already under stress.
It could end up like touring in a third world country!
Why not wait until next year?
Its a great adventure, I'd like to do it again now retired and no time constraints, but in the present situation I'd put it off for a while.

Re: Legal red light jumping in Paris
Regarding pedestrians crossing the road in France, there has been a change in the law, and in my experience cars are now much more likely to stop for pedestrians (and also for cyclists using a path that crosses side roads and on the edge of roundabouts) - the drivers risk a large fine and loss of points on their licence if they fail to do so. We were in France shortly before and then again after the law came into force and the difference was noticeable.

Re: Pedal powered buses in New Forest
As buses traditionally travel in threes, and I imagine the speed may be between 10 and 15mph at best, they will be a really effective traffic-calming measure on the New Forest roads !!

Re: TV series on North Sea cycle route in UK
The link only shows a short trailer for the series. However, having watched a few episodes thought that it's a route to add to my list of "must do" ( At least some of the UK part ) Anyone done it or part of it? Is it all on road - any cycle tracks?
Thanks
Thanks

TV series on North Sea cycle route in UK
Recently broadcast in France on the Arte channel an excellent series of programs describing the cycle touring experiences of Jeannie Longo, Rudi Altig and Joey Kelly along the North Sea route from Scotland south along the east coast. They experience the delights of UK touring - pubs and full English breakfasts! Very much in the style of "Coast" - lots of local commentary. Unfortunately it may not be viewable in UK - try this link for information.

but if anyone can get European channels via satellite it may be worth looking out for - they seem to be doing repeats of it.
(The dialogue is mainly in French)

Re: Prepaid Data FRANCE/SPAIN
In France tourist offices often have free wi-fi so you can use lap-tops, tablets etc. However, pay as you go sim charges for phones are rather extortionate as they all seem to be time limited - remaining credit is lost if you don't top up after the time you have bought. Of course this means you can make long phone calls while waiting for your return ferry!

Re: British Cycle Quest
Its a good way to motivate yourself to set out on a ride with a map exploring an area you don't know. I found it quite easy to bag the local ones as often I had a good idea of the roads in the area. When on holidays, B&B weekends away etc I look at the OS map and see if I can visit a few checkpoints. I'd recommend taking a camera along as well. Some of the checkpoints are well away from the road - be prepared for this.

Re: Cycle Magazine ( truncated "teaser" version )
Just found there is an archive of past issues on the main site - ( not sure if anyone has already reported this on this thread)
I still prefer to look at the printed copies though. . . . . .
EDIT : A single URL no longer works. It is necessary use the online search on the Cycling UK website . . . .
www.cyclinguk.org
Search for "Cycle magazine", then scroll whichever is of interest ( for starters ).
Once you have arrived at an individual copy, you will find a list of other "Cycle" magazines on the right-hand side.
