Full Mudguards for Disc braked Bike

Folks, A friend of mine has just bought a Surly Straggler, and wants some full mudguards on it. It has clearance through the stays and eyelets etc, 700c x 40 tyres, and the way I see it the traditional V type rear wire support won't clear the disks? Anyone suggest any suitable guards? Thanks in adva...

Shim 5701 105 rear mech 9 speed compatibility??

Hi, Lost my Sora rear mech in a snapped mech hanger tragedy. Thought I would upgrade and ordered a 5700 rear mech from wiggle (badged as 8\9\10 speed), medium cage as the front is a triple. What has turned up is a 5701 GS, medium cage. Question being has anyone put a 5701 on a 9 speed, I think it sh...

Folks,

Just for info, if anyone happens to have one of these and is unaware of the issue. Apparently there have been no failures as yet.

Re: Elbow\knee pad recommendations for a 5\6 year old

Folks,

Thanks for replies to date, I have mailed him a link to this thread to follow.........he's working abroad at the moment, and he gave me the impression that full on armour is the height of fashion.

Perhaps the post from Pete may sway him :-)

Elbow\knee pad recommendations for a 5\6 year old

Folks,

A friend of mine wants some protective kit (elbow\knee pads) for his son who is learning to ride a bike, my advice of 'don't bother' was dismissed :-)

He's 5, going on 6 - anyone got any tips.

Re: Corinne Dennis Double Comfort Shorts

Hi, I have a pair of these, well the 3\4 ones, but assume they are the same but a bit longer. I think they are great, used them loads last year, washed loads and still good as new (been using their Roubaix tights over winter) They are to be worn high though, and having a belly they can roll down if ...

Re: Paging Brucey - Sturmey Hub Tweak advice :-)

Brucey,

Many thanks, in that case I may be chasing\creating a problem I don't have! I was not aware that 4-5 needed to 'engage' as such, it looks like I am interpreting normal behaviour as a fault.

I;ll check the toggle tension, just to be sure.

Thanks

Paging Brucey - Sturmey Hub Tweak advice :-)

Brucey et al, Having a minor problem with my Sturmey XRD5(w), it manifests as a tardiness to go from 4 to 5 (sometimes changes, other times engages after a few spins), and the occasional 'false neutral' as i would call them on my motorcycle! Obviously the cable is either too slack or too tight, its ...

Re: Constant gear slipping/changing

Hi,

I have just had a load of bother with my road bike and it was possibly 531colin who nailed it........

On mine the last loop of cable before the mech had some 'gunge' in the ferrules, released the cable, cleaned up the ferrules, gave a generous spray of gt85 and re-tensioned.

All is now well.

Re: Indexing woes - what am I missing :-)

If you're an all weather rider, then Shimano make rubber cable boots that clip onto the front entry ferrule to the rear cable loop. Or Transfil make a plastic liner that also clips onto their special ferrules, that will line any length of exposed cable. Both help protect the vulnerable rear loop fr...

Re: Indexing woes - what am I missing :-)

Well, filth is the word............ As mentioned by RJS\Crepello\Gary001, I too am a bit tardy on the bike washing front :-) I haven't used this bike over the winter, its one of the garage princesses, however it has seen plenty of rain.........in fact too much, we have shared some miserable days out...
