Re: Calibrating Park Tool TM-1 spoke tension meter

Hi, I've discussed my readings from my TM1 with Spa Cycles... I mentioned the readings I had from my old set and the name of the builder. It was said that builder had a tendency to build very tight. So the readings I'm getting for the Spa Cycle built wheels will probably be correct and the TM1 isn't...

Re: Calibrating Park Tool TM-1 spoke tension meter

Hi, Firstly, thank you to SimonCelsa for starting the thread. Handy to find. My original wheels were built up by Spa Cycles some 7 years ago. These were Rigida Sputniks 26" alloy 36H. Using Sapim Race front and NDS. Sapim Strong on the rear DS. They have served me well on self-supported laden t...

US - Southern Tier

Hi,

Does anyone have experience of cycling the southern US in the winter? And on using the Adventure Cycling route?

From my research temperatures look moderate for the time of year.

Regards,

Nigel

SPAIN PORTUGAL

Hi,

At this early stage of looking, does anyone know the best cycling maps/routes available (if any) for Spain and Portugal.

I'm aware of the Eurovelo routes, but not much available on a map form.

Kind Regards,

Nigel

Re: SUSTRANS Network

That's all fantastic information. Thank you. The terrain good or bad is not really a concern. And, if the network takes me up a few hills, also not a problem. I've cycled up the west coast of New Zealand loaded. They're not hills, but mountains! http://nigelsbicyclejourneys.com/2013/02/16/what-rain/...

Re: SUSTRANS Network

Hi, I did have a reply from SUSTRANS regarding the relevant maps and they sent me a consice list of links. Good on them. And yes it may cost a few quid, but certainly worth it. I'm keen to stick to the full network to get round as it may not have being done before???? The network, not round Britain!...

SUSTRANS Network

Hi,

Does anyone have experience or knowledge of cycling around Britain just using the SUSTRANS network. Planning on this summer.

I'll get the relevant maps and set forth!

Re: Bicycle & New Zealand customs

Ronk, Not aware, but good to hear a bit about it. Will read up on it on the flight over. I just looked at g maps, and thought, right that looks a good place to start! Good to hear though you recommend it. Thanks for the tips. I do commute to work 18 mile round trip through hilly Cornish lanes (coast...

Ron,

Just seen your Gone Fishin' tour of NZ 2012. Might see you around Dunedin.

Enjoy, and I'll follow your progress. Happy fishing :D

Re: Bicycle & New Zealand customs

Ron, Checked your blog out. You certainly have that planned  Myself, flight to Xchurch, couple of days at a camp ground getting bike and food together, then hit the Banks Peninsular for 4 - 5 days. Yes, looks mountainous but should also be stunning. Make or break me! From there, the cycle to ...

You cannot do much better than Helen's advice. Heed it well :D You may also like to have a look at Tom's site too - http://tomsbiketrip.com/advice-planning/ Very informative. My blog/site thought is pretty new though, and as yet only covers smaller trips in the south west of the UK - http://nigelsbi...

Re: Camp grounds Christchurch, New Zealand?

Hi gbnz, I plan on wild/freedom camping as much as possible. But, as I'm just arriving into Xchurch from a long flight, a basic camp ground to sort stuff out is all I require. I did see the Top Ten Parks when researching, and as you say; I too avoid them like the plague! Will bear in mind ...

Camp grounds Christchurch, New Zealand?

Hi,

I am arriving into Christchurch in October, and have provisionally booked a campsite near the airport while I sort my bike, food out, etc.. http://www.219onjohns.co.nz/

Anyone have experience of camp grounds in Christchurch please? Just to get me on the right footing.
