Re: Revolution Courier 27 stolen (now recovered)

Thank you. It seems OK considering it's had several months of probably rough treatment. They'd changed the bars, stem, front wheel and saddle. The back wheel and tyre are very worn - but all in all a great result!

Re: Seatpost clamp for rack fitting

Thanks for these ideas - I'll follow them up.

To fill in some of the detail, my seatpost is 27.2 mm diameter and the bike spec on the Genesis website says it's currently fitted with a 29.8 mm seatpost clamp.

Seatpost clamp for rack fitting

Can anyone point me to a 29.8 mm seatpost clamp with attachment points for a rack for a Genesis Equilibrium? I find a lot of 31.8 mm and larger, but the size I need seems very scarce indeed on the internet!

Revolution Courier 27 stolen (now recovered)

Taken from my garden yesterday evening, a black Revolution Courier 27, with 27-speed Deore groupset and distinguishing features including M520 pedals, short bar ends, Cyclops mirror, black rack and mudguards, Marathon+ tyre on rear. Possibly on its way to a 2nd hand shop. I would be grateful for any information if anyone sees it.

Sunny Map Holder

I'd like a map holder as a lightweight option for when I don't need the capacity of a handlebar bag. Has anybody any experience of the Rixen Kaul Sunny Map Holder http://www.wiggle.co.uk/rixen-kaul-klickfix-sunny-map-holder? It would fit handily onto the Klickfix mount I already have, but looks like it might flex a lot when on the move.

If you work any muscles in the same position for any length of time they will get tired and sore and your joints will feel the pressure. Even if your bike is a "perfect" fit, it's still important to keep shifting your position slightly as you ride, so that repetitive strain doesn't develop. That could be as simple as changing your hand positions, sitting a few mm's further back or forward, etc. And have a stretch every now and then. These methods seem to work very well for me.

Well, I was looking for the Time ATAC pedals, but there were just so many SPD ones on eBay that I've gone for a pair of those instead. Judging from comments in this thread, they should do a good job for me anyway.

Thanks for the advice, folks. I like to do long rides (50+ miles) and I've got dodgy old knees, so I'm tilting towards the Times. On the other hand, there seem to be so many more models of SPDs.

Clipless pedals: Time ATAC vs SPD

I'm just in the process of going clipless. Can anyone advise on the actual differences in using Time ATAC vs Shimano SPD pedals for moderate paced day rides? Preferably someone who has used both?

Thanks

Good point - availability of good off-road cyclie paths.
Bad point - lots of glass on part of that route.

I have the SCR 2. It's excellent as a light tourer - I use it for day rides in the country. I'd guess it'd be great for audaxes. It takes full mudguards, and in my opinion its Tiagra dual-control shifters are well worth having for their convenience.

I suggest keeping your mtb for the commutes and for any rides involving significant off-road sections, and buy a road bike such as the Giants or Treks you mentioned. That's more or less what I do. Having two bikes also gives you a spare if the other is broken. If you can only have one bike, then I agree a touring or "audax" bike would be a good solution.

The closely related Trek 5.5 Disc scored well in a review in the latest Cycling Plus magazine. I presume you have a preference for disc brakes (or is it just one way of narrowing down the many options?).
