Re: Insuring an e-bike
Thanks guys! I've gone with my household contents insurance (Halifax) against theft/loss/damage, new for old, inc. liability. I got quotes from specific cycle insurance companies but they were much more expensive and also required proof of purchase of a Sold Secure D lock to use away from home, whereas Halifax are less picky about the type of lock. They are charging about £80 a year. Thanks for your advice.

Insuring an e-bike
I have a Cube Access Hybrid Race 500 off-road/trail e-bike. Can anyone advise re insuring it, or is there anything I need to beware of?

Re: Power surge problems
That's interesting, thanks! I've just recharged the battery and now it gives me extra assist on EMTB when I switch to it WITHOUT me having to pedal harder to get it. This is how it behaved when I first had it, so I wonder if the full battery helps? It shouldn't be the case though.
Until I recharged it, no matter how hard I pedalled (like you, not easy) I didn't seem to get the assist although the man in the shop tried riding it and was telling me harder pedalling was the answer. You seem to be saying that if you keep it on EMTB it will switch up and down by itself so I'll try that.

Power surge problems
I'm a 67-year-old female with newly-arthritic knees. I've been riding a flat-bar hybrid on the road, with occasional off-road sorties on a heavier trail bike. I recently bought an electric offroad/hybrid bike. I test-rode several at the NEC Cycle Show. On my bike's first outing the four power surges worked fine (Eco, Tour, EMTB, Turbo). On subsequent rides I'm finding there's no apparent power-surge from Tour to EMTB. The shop where I ordered it say this is because I need to pedal harder to get the EMTB power surge -- but on all the bikes I tested I did not have to do this, nor on mine the first time out, and anyway, I got this bike specifically so that I would not have to pedal harder!! The shop plugged it into their computer but say it is fine. Any ideas or advice?

Re: Diverticulitis/diverticulosis
I recently had a bout of diverticulitis which as in your case was sorted with IV antibiotics then oral antibiotics. Until I had a colonoscopy shortly afterwards, I'd had no idea I had underlying diverticulosis. (I've been told that 60% of over-60's have it but don't know unless it flares up) It's really important to keep things moving so bad bacteria don't get a hold. Here's what I do to avoid a recurrence:
Prescribed Fybogel fibre supplement -- excellent
Hefty pro-biotic supplement Super 20 Pro online from Healthspan (promotes 'good' bacteria)
PRE-biotic supplement Inulin online from Peak Supps to facilitate action of the above
Lots of fibre
Lots of liquids
I don't usually need the Fybogel if I use the supplements.

Carrying a pump on bike without attachment points
I've just bought a Cube electric off-road bike (bad knees) There is no attachment point for a pump or bottle cage on the small frame sizes, only on the larger ones. I've had a look online for Velcro-strap-type things for the pump (not so bothered about the bottle) but one review said it would only work if the frame tube profile is circular, and mine isn't. Any ideas?

campsite bike locking point
Can anyone suggest something I could lock a bike to if I'm not near a fence, rail etc on a campsite? My tent's too small to take a bike, especially when I'm in it myself. I once read something somewhere about something which screwed into the ground to attach a dog lead to.

Re: Arm warmers for skinny arms.
Mine slide down too but I got some cheapo ones from Aldi and sewed them smaller on a sewing machine. Turned them inside out with the seam at the side, started at the elbow sewing on the existing seam then increased the margin until at the top it was about 1" or so. that means they were reduced in width by 2" at the top, graduating to nothing at the elbow.

Thanks -- I've had a look at Paramo but they all seem to have hoods and I couldn't find any aimed at bikes. Do you know of a model name?

Breathable cycle jacket
Can anyone recommend a good jacket? Full zip front, windproof, showerproof with a little warmth -- but most of all, really breathable? I have a Gore Bike Wear Gortex one which is fine, but I'd like one in a slightly 'cosier' fabric. I've tried cheap ones which claim to be 'breathable' but aren't, (must sweat a lot I suppose) so get clammy inside. I'd be prepared to pay if I knew it was really going to work. Any ideas?

Bikes on Belgian trains
On a forthcoming Belgian tour with friends I may need to take my bike on a train or trains if my knees play up. I've read the trains are bike-friendly, but are there any things I need to be aware of?

Thanks for that John. I have toured solo though, (64 year old female) but find it a bit lonely!

Recommended cycle tour companies?
I want to do a guided supported tour in France, ideally to include the Carmargue, starting from Avignon or Nimes or thereabouts and not too challenging re distances and climbs per day. Can anyone recommend a good UK company?

C2C train access
I will be doing the C2C from Whitehaven and note from its site that on trains from Carlisle to Whitehaven only two bikes are allowed and that they are non-reservable. Is this rule strictly adhered to?
Plus, at the other end how easy is it to get me and the bike to Newcastle on Tyne to get a train home?
