Re: A positive thread
These are known as flange bearings. Also found in wheelbarrows. Bearings were cheap and cheerful with a short lifespan. I struggled to find replacements so fitted better quality standard (no flange) with a tube spacer in the wheel. And was careful to avoid over tightening up the axle which would have loaded the bearing.

It's just been reported the council passed the bill to restore the seafront to its original state at a cost of £425,000.

Re: UK energy
Dynamic pricing being discussed by OFGEM. Coming our way in the future.
An attempt at balancing usage with generation to control pricing. Smart metering will be the key to its introduction.

Re: Clevedon Seafront - Cycle track removal - Active Travel England
Interesting mix of representatives on the council with a coalition in charge. ie all the disparate groups have joined up to oust the conservatives. Are these groups focussed on their own self interest at the demise of the big picture with global warming. My take on it is what a shambles and waste of public funds. Dont get me started on the long running ongoing saga of the Tutshill Sluice crossing. https://n-somerset.gov.uk/my-services/p ... r-pier-way

If you also angle the slots a fraction as Brucey suggested it should make ball insertion easier with reduced chance of ejecting a ball in use when rotating. Just think about the rotation direction before grinding the slot or tap the balls in as the video shows.rjb wrote: ↑24 Mar 2024, 3:24pm found on u tube. Probably others available too.

Re: Just how long will it take to turn this ship around?
I didnt say it was going to happen overnight but at least Lizz Trust started the ball rolling. My idea is sensible and fair. Look at the overall picture. We are discussing taxation not income here. Will take some progressive planning, but it should reduce those eye watering salaries which take oppressive amounts of taxation into account when remuneration is calculated making more available for those further down the scale.pete75 wrote: ↑24 Mar 2024, 3:03pmSomeone on minimum wage and working 40 hours a week currently pays around £1800 pa in income tax. Under your system of abolishing the personal allowance, they'd pay about £4,300.rjb wrote: ↑24 Mar 2024, 1:33pm Shirley the fairest tax regime would be to have one rate applied to all income. Having higher rates just increases salaries to try and make up the shortfall, so perpetuating escalating salaries. Scrapping personnel allowances would simplify the tax regime so everyone would know how much they owe.
It would mean a few years of pain until the new system stabilised. Less room for tax avoidance. Better transparency.
Any takers.
I'll get my lid on in anticipation of the incoming flack.
Any other great ideas to reduce the income of the lowest paid?
How can it be fair for someone to be taxed at 20% whilst others are taxed at 40%. Equality for everyone.

The report is out and recommends compensation of between 1-3k for all those affected. Mrs RJB is not very optimistic. The 2.6 million ladies affected were born between 6 April, 1950 and 5 April, 1960.rjb wrote: ↑21 Mar 2024, 8:37am Latest report on "waspi" due tomorrow. It's been dragging on far too long already.

Time for a complete overhaul of the state pension system. It was previously paid for by NI contributions but the chancellor has indicated he's moving to an income tax system with the phasing out of NI. This will be detrimental to current pensioners who funded there state pensions through NI contributions.
The current system is a bag of worms. Far too complicated even for pension ministers to understand.
