Re: It's far too dangerous to cycle on the road

Around here the council are not even gritting the roads any more!

Re: Royston Woods - A Safer Way - Who has actually done it ?

I am planning on going both ways using Royston Woods route for a good part of it, but trying not to cover the same roads up and back where possible.

mkbutters, have you written a blog at all? I'd be very interested in hearing how you got on.

Re: Did you get married in clothes related to your work or other activity?

Three months before I got married I was struck by a car as I crossed the road - he was travelling so fast he hit me 3 times before he could stop, just kept bouncing me up in to the air! As I was being taken in to A&E the nurse said did I have anything planned for the next three months? I thought...

Re: Veteran's Badge

Thanks for "reminding" me MIck F! I knew you could get one, but had forgotten all about it, form sent off yesterday. I served 28 years, 6 medals. Like Landsurfer I was armed, as a commando (and para) trained sailor. Never fired a shot in anger, but had a few scary moments; on a "sight...

Re: London Marathon

I've run London 10 times, I did it when my daughter managed to get a ballot place on her 18th birthday, I wanted to run with her (although our finish times would be much different), I ran for a charity and when I finished clearly stated I had "ticked the box" and would not do it again, the...

Re: Excuses excuses

I wonder how many apply the handbrake and engage neutral while waiting at the lights, any observations?

Like the old joke, how can you tell the lights have changed? The car in front rolls back :)

Re: You Tube Head Cam footage

But that really is pathetic, if he is willing to try to run you down and then when that fails stop and assault you then he has a real problem and should not be on the road. One reason why more and more people (it seems to me) are unwilling to ride a bike in traffic. Without going away from the origi...

Re: Do shimano sti shift levers work with DX cranksets?

So I thought I would give an update on how I finally got on! Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to post photos, they come up as being too large, but it is on Cyclechat in the photo gallery under "show us your Genesis" and in the "self-builds". White frame with a "One Less...

Re: Altercation with a bus

Well done Mick! I have had several games of Russian roulette with drivers at traffic calming points in a local village, they were all either confused or angry that I would not stop and let them through unimpeded, even though I had ROW. I know I am a grumpy old git, but I think cyclists and pedestria...

Re: A tougher line on speeding?

I see drivers speeding as a regular occurrence. Frequently driving through a 30mph speed limit I will be overtaken, despite the fact that in another 200 metres the limit ends and the road is completely straight for nigh on 2 miles and gives ample opportunity to pass a slow-coach like me. I am also q...

Re: School cycle ban

I assume that if a student continues to cycle without these requirements they will be banned from cycling. I am sure they could then claim hardship, in that they would be unable to get to school any other way and have the ban lifted, after all that's what drivers do when caught breaking the LAW. [Re...
