Re: Extinction Rebellion

Last time I replaced the boiler many years ago I looked at fitting a ground source heat pump. But as the maximum water temperature that could be achieved was 55 degrees C it would have meant replacing every radiator and digging up most of the garden, my wifes pride and joy. So, I didnt do it, just g...

Re: The Face of the Tory Welfare State

Yes...its all the wicked Tories fault. The poor chap had formerly been self employed and didnt know how to claim the benefits he was so obviously entitled to, and, the DWP obviously got it seriously wrong. Very sad story, RIP. Yes it is very sad and it is the fault of the wicked Tories, social care ...

Re: The Face of the Tory Welfare State

Al will be along in a minute to point out if he'd been financially astute he could have saved for the hard times. Indeed. All the poor chap needed to do was open a bank account.... NO - wait! Yes...its all the wicked Tories fault. The poor chap had formerly been self employed and didnt know ...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Yes, mismanagement played a part, in that case it was crooked owners remote from us in London not local management. Although our shop steward an avowed Communist that caused lots of problems through sheer bloodymindidness. If you lived through the strife of the 70s you couldnt deny that it was rabbl...

divisions competing against each other but with cars using completely different engines/floorpans etc. Jaguar vs Rover vs Triumph in the luxury sector and the smaller Triumph cars vs the 1100/1300 series. Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Yes Pete, I should have said single model, not marque. German quality is great but devoid of character, I had a series of Mercs, they make great taxis  Most surviving Stags now have the V8, and those that dont want a V8. Rover engined models are worth much less. If you have a Rover engine, it l...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Well Pete I was working in manufacturing at that time and I would say that the Unions did a lot of damage. The main damage they did was that they distracted you from what was important, improving quality and driving up productivity. And Keith Joseph and Thatcher wiped out many businesses via crippli...

You dont see Romany door knockers with pegs these days, or knife grinders, or Johny Onion, Avon ladies, Mormons, Jehovas Witnesses, Corona man, shrimps and prawns etc. Lack of enterprise these days.......
