Where is the best deal on a new Galaxy?

My brother in law is looking for a new Dawes Galaxy, I'd like to help him out but I'm completely out of touch with 'new stuff'. The newest bike I own is 30 years old :D I did read on here that Dawes offer a few model variations on the Galaxy and that its no longer a simple choice between Galaxy and ...

Re: Looking for a frame ID maybe 1957

Thanks for all the input and suggestions. I've been having a trawl through lots of images and websites but not discovered anything new. The frame and fork numbers match and seem unusual by their size, they are very neatly positioned and only 4mm high, I can't find any frame with such small, neat let...

Looking for a frame ID maybe 1957

I know the 50s are difficult as there were so many builders but this frame does have a couple of more unusual features that might pin it down. It has a lot of similarities to a Flying Scott but the frame numbers don't tie up. Here's what I have: Frame number 349 57 - The obvious assumption is that i...

Re: INSURANCE WHEN CYCLING WITH CHILD IN REAR SEAT

Do you think cycling is dangerous? I wouldn't describe it as dangerous, but compared to when I was cycling 35 years ago, I think there is a significantly increased risk of being involved in an accident. By its very nature, we as cyclists are more exposed and you can attribute different levels of ri...

Re: Second hand used Brooks saddles on ebay

I agree with you 100% and I first heard of Brooks been stolen and sold on Ebay about 2 years ago. I would say though, unless the Ebay link is the same seller proven to be the thief of your saddle, its probably not a good idea to insinuate an Ebay seller is a thief on a public forum.

Re: INSURANCE WHEN CYCLING WITH CHILD IN REAR SEAT

I'd be surprised if you can get insurance. Personally, I think cycling in traffic with a toddler in a rear seat is completely irresponsible and dangerous. If there's an accident, much the same as pillion riders on motorbikes, the passenger is more than likely to come off worst. The fact that you ar...

Re: My Mercian nightmare continues

Perhaps they did not recalibrate the alignment board when they changed from imperial to metric. Now there's a word, 'Calibration'. I wouldn't be surprised if something is astray in the measuring process. Now I'm not sure how much information is conveyed digitally in Mercians workshop but I would be...

Re: My Mercian nightmare continues

The whole point of CAD drawing is so you can make everything millimeter perfect. The obvious place for a mistake to be made is in the translation from imperial to metric but the CAD software itself should account for that. I remember my grandfather talking about working to a thou of an inch in the 1...

Re: Stuck seat posts & frame heating discussion

I didn't realise there was a dedicated stuck seat posts 'post'. I have to say some of the above did give me a wry smile. I've removed 'a lot' of stuck seat posts and cutting them out is by far the quickest and easiest option. It never fails and never damages the paint or frame. http://forum.ctc.org....

Re: frame breaks under guarantee, what next?

You've given them plenty of time to replace or repair the frame which they have failed to do. They can not charge you anything for any removal and re- installation of parts necessary to carry out the repair/replacement. You still have a legal right to a full refund as the item was not fit for purpos...

Is anyone missing a Blue Paris Galibier?

I hope I'm wrong about this but thought I'd make this post about a Paris Galibier that recently came up for sale in what can only be called, dubious circumstances. The bike was/is in what could be called a 'socially challenged' area of Wolverhampton. It was advertised for sale at £45. The only conta...

Re: Finding a bike that fits (impossible?)

It sounds as if you're suffering with knee pain off the bike? In which case it is going to be impossible to find a comfortable bike to ride. Cycling by its nature is strenuous on the knees and it will exacerbate any existing problems. Maybe its worth considering an alternative cardiovascular exercise.

Glad you had a good ride, you can't really go wrong around the Long Mynd. Although I always say to anyone cycling in Shropshire, where ever you go you will meet a big hill!
