Re: Tent recommendations - is what I have overkill?

3) Pitching the tent as a single unit like that meant that event if I was dry enough during the rain, when it came time to break camp, I had to roll up a big, floppy wet tent to pack it up. Water could easily get into the inner tent from the wet fly. With a tent that has separate tent and fly, I ca...

Re: TRAINING for LEJOG

Let me throw this training spanner into the works. ****warning - every human being is different ***** A 12 to 14 day LEJOG needs very little training if approached in the right frame of mind. Start easy - 60 ish miles for first few days and a mantra in the head of "I will not walk" will se...

999 miles

Stolen from another thread but it's a conundrum that I have considered many times What route are you taking? 1,000miles????? I've done End2End quite a few times, and my mileage comes out at about 890miles. 10days would be only 89miles a day. I have done it in 11days and averaged about 80mile...

Re: Solo / camping advice

Are you are thinking about camping every night ? I did solo / camping in April and found that the tent was very wet from the dew / condensation in the morning, and apart from carrying the extra weight of the water, I needed to dry the thing out before being able to sleep in it the following night. F...

If anyone feels like taking the Crask Inn over, it's now up for sale... http://uk.businessesforsale.com/uk/Attractive-Crask-Inn-With-Accommodation-In-Lairg-For-Sale.aspx I hope this remote mecca lives on... Indeed - and I hope the owners have a long and happy retirement. Stayed overnight on my LEJO...

Re: is it possible?

I don't agree completely with the comments about getting lots of long rides under your belt, I did LELPDHJOG this year over 13 days and hadn't ridden much at all - certainly nothing longer than 60 miles over 2 days during my training. I was a bit lardy before I started too ! I read a lot about ridin...

Re: A6 or not?

This was without doubt the most challenging day of my E2E. I started in Bamber Bridge and finished just north of Penrith. My gpx file had me going along the canal which was a huge mistake as it was busy (Sunday), bumpy (grass / gravel) and there was a massive headwind (prevailing winds...pffft). I t...

Re: It's now or never ! (update gps advice needed)

Day 3. Sunburnt legs. In wellington and loving it. So many highs, so many hills but I'm in Somerset so switching from energy gels to snorkel. Lands End was shut when I started, Lizard Point was rammed with tourists but Helford Ferry was stunning and the hill known as the Long Drag in Tiverton was gr...

Re: Route Advice - NW England

I'll be a few days behind you doing this route //ridewithgps.com/routes/4034377.

For me it was the hardest bit to plot - so it's a bit of a head down and get through it section. I know the area well so I'll not be missing out on the beauty of Lancashire.

Re: It's now or never ! (update need GPS advice)

Ok - need some help here please - I leave in 10 days but will be away with family for most of that. I have 14 days worth of routes mapped in RWGPS - these export as gpx files to Memory Map which converts the tracks to routes - but each day's route has variable number of points - up to 300 on some. S...

Re: Success with London-Penzance train reservation

You should have a look at cycling onto Kirkwall (via the ferry) and flying back - that's how I'm getting back to Leeds - the faff of 4 train changes (with 4 bookings and cycle space worries vrs one change where someone else sorts the bike was well worth the £10 less it cost :D

Re: LEJoG - new, squeaky clean, new member!!

Bah - just had a text from Cathy that she has had to abandon her LEJOG effort due to road closures, punctures and bad luck.
Cathy - when you get back I hope you mark a sodding great big X on the map and one day start from there. Don't let the dream die or the pedals stop turning. xx
