Re: Stem Raiser To Raise The Handlebars

I've used one for many years on my now defunct British Eagle Touristique. Much better to have the bars higher. Completely agree with Brucey - downside was twitchy steering, especially when towing a Yak trailer. All because I was sold a smaller sized bike than I should have bought! Try one, it could ...

Re: Two sets of brakes?

Yes... I once built a bike with three brakes, front and rear cantilever brakes were operated in the usual way, but i mounted a BMX caliper to the rear stay bridge and used an old friction gear lever to operate it. The idea being that i could set the third brake to scrub of speed on any long down hi...

Re: SJS Cycles

I have enjoyed years of good service from them. Posted a hub off for wheel-building; prompt email reply and courteous phone call. :D It will come back well packed and built. I've also been very pleased with everything they do. Latest parcel was a pair of wheel rims - very clever and careful packagi...

Re: Tyre Pressure for Small Wheel Tyres

I've used 110psi on my Brompton with Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres, on the advice of my wheel builder, to avoid "pinch punctures". Works well for me over the last three years. Yes, the ride is lively, but I've quickly got used to that.

Ideas to Consider for Prospective New Tourers

Several requests are made to help formulate plans for new tourers. Before posting future requests, please consider the following:- 1) Abilities of yourself (solo or a group); 2) Types of bike(s) and proposed terrain; 3) Length of tour (time and or miles); 4) Accommodation planned (camp/B&B/hoste...

Re: EXTENDING THESE PAGES

There's no limit to how many pages and threads at one time. Only threads that have been inactive for a month auto delete. We could end up with many pages of already sold items (not all sellers amend their threads when items are sold/collected/sorted etc.). We try and add "sold" when approp...

Re: Garmin Edge Explore price dropping

Be careful. I've had two failed purchases via Amazon - one from "cheap car stuff"' , can't remember the other supposed seller. Each time Amazon refunded my monies spent when the goods never arrived. Buyer beware! :?

Try this link to a tour taken by friends on recumbents. They have also toured extensively in U.S.A. and are at present in Mexico. Good luck.

Re: Ortlieb bar bag fixing

The only problem with Ortlieb barbags is that they last forever! I replaced my Ultimate 2 for an Ultimate 4 not because there was anything wrong with it but because after a dozen years use it was looking 'used'! I've gone to using the R&K mounting as the lock on the Ortlieb is entirely pointles...

I use Karrimor panniers, but if it's a big shop - Bob Yak + ordinary shopping bags works best for me.
