Re: Rod brakes / stirrup brakes
My first wheel rim failure was on a bike with rod brakes. I'll never forget watching in amazement as the wheel rim expanded sideways, until the frightening moment when I briefly saw what was the inner tube before it exploded! Pumping up has never been the same since.

Re: Parking on the pavement to be banned!
Should have posted this yesterday, all of the posts relating to shared space have been moved to "shared space" thread.

Re: Hearing aids and wind noise mufflers
My aids have a "speech in noisy environments" programme, great for cycling and conversations walking with noisy traffic.

Re: Is this forum unrepresentative?
Surely the Forum is representative of the prolific posters, as opposed to the majority of members who choose to remain in the background. The only way to restore balance is for more folk to post, or do we restrict our prolific posters? Whilst the moderation team readily remove or edit posts that don't conform to Forum rules, the thought of restricting posts to maintain balance (politically or otherwise) would be horrendous! How we could encourage the readers rather than posters to take part perhaps might be discussed amicably?

Not a big fan of belt drives, really. Interesting that one place you don't see them is on folding bikes, where they might be quite good.
cheers
I was offered this option on my Brompton (Kinetics Special) but advised against it because it was suggested that repeated folding would possibly damage the belt. Pleased that having read the above posts, I opted for chain drive.

I don't think I've ever seen it happen on the internet, but what we very often need is some banging-heads-together from someone, so that this happens more often.
MOD: look Sally and Simon, you've done this to death, just agree to disagree. Either talk about something else, or wait and see if someone else has any fresh ideas.
"Moderation" which is only banning and censhorship is quite limited. We need marriage counsellors [/quote]
The above is a perfect example of how our moderation usually works. Sometimes, probably over 50%, common sense applies and only the poster realises what's gone on. Unfortunately sometimes the poster will not respond to advise, forum rules or a polite recommendation. In these cases, we take action to correct issues. This action can be moving posts, editing posts or moving threads out of public view. Ultimately it can result in a temporary or permanent ban - actions not used lightly. Most banned posters are those who would flood our forum with illegal or undesirable rubbish. Occasionally posters who will not conform to the rules/standards that they signed up to when they joined are banned. Their posts are usually held out of view, in case future problems necessitate reviews of what happened in the past. All is done in an open way that is observable by the moderation/admin team. Of course there will be some issues that crop up that may not make sense to anyone who does not have moderator privileges. We try to help everyone understand, but cannot explain everything to all without long and tedious posts that would congest and detract from threads.

Re: Does anyone else have a problem posting?
I've been back through all moderator activity since the beginning of 2020. There was a small amount of attention to this thread, but it hasn't been locked and none of the moderation involved PDQ Mobile. I don't understand why the OP had that experience? At least it's working now

Re: Acute Hip Pain
Good to hear that something is starting to get sorted. My sister-in-law developed the same condition after losing her husband. He had a prolonged difficult demise, which caused her unbelievable stress. After about two years, she lost all of the symptoms and is now back to her normal self.
Try to keep reasonably active without pushing too hard and hopefully all will eventually be well. Good luck

So in one breath you claim proper infrastructure is impossible at that location...Also more concrete would perhaps detract from the A66 bridge over the river that won an award for its asthetic beauty.
and in you next you give us an example of exactly that!
It is perfectly possible so long as you give a toss about the users.
2nd quote was tongue in cheek. I can't imagine how an alternative to the boardwalk could reasonably be constructed in better materials. It's worked as it is for many years; whilst not perfect it has been acceptable.
