Hey I will be in france and italy in july! I'm leaving for paris on sunday (8th). Pretty busy until the 20th July where I am planning on going to Brive to see the tour de france come in, and will be heading west to bordeaux before looping around and heading to the med and east to mount ventoux and t...

Re: camping chair hunt
Not sure if you managed to find a chair but I'm debating taking one of these, 480g and less than £5.
It looks like a kids chair but is actually fine for adults..

Opinions on choosing a France route please?
Hi I am going on a 5 week trip through France to Italy and simply can't decide on the regions to cycle through- opinions needed! I am leaving in 3 weeks flying into Paris, and was thinking about doing the following, however I would appreciate opinions on this and if I should miss parts out, as I kin...

Re: Opinion on this £25 saddle for tour? Do you know another
Thanks for the replies. Its all a bit confusing to be honest and I'm feeling the pressure giving the time I have and not wanting to cripple myself straight away! But partof it is that I'm not used to cycling distance so I think its inevitable it will be sore anyway. I'm in two minds what to do, its ...

Opinion on this £25 saddle for tour? Do you know another?
Hey I know saddles have been done to death here so I will try and be specific, I just wanted to see what people thought about the below for a month tour, 50 miles per day? Specialized Expedition Gel Saddle http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/expedition-gel-saddle-ec028217 If you had £25 ...

Re: France which way - North to South, or South to North..?
Thanks for the replies! Basically this issue was based on a logistical thing with transporting bike but now I'm having a total nightmare choosing areas in france to go to- mainly because they are on opposite sides of the country! (I have been reading about areas I hadn't planned on) I want (would l...

France which way - North to South, or South to North..?
Would you have any preference for a length of France trip?
I'm thinking it may be easier to get the bike back home from the north in one piece on the train rather than worrying about packing it up with a suitable in the south at an airport - avignon area. Hmmm

Re: Dawes Discovery 401 2012 - any good?
Stephen...I found a couple of jerky videos on-line that looked like they showed eyelets on the dropouts, have a look at your own frame before you discount it. 700c "may" roll easier, but many people tour on converted mountain bikes. Hell of a trip that guy did, I think you will be OK in F...

Re: Dawes Discovery 401 2012 - any good?
Whereabouts are you located Stephen? There is a 22" 2011 601 (hardy used) with an asking price of £300 in Essex on Gumtree. Hi thanks for that. I'm in the north east - Teesside area near Middlesbrough so Essex is a bit of a trek, unfortunately. However I do work in Peterborough during the week...

Re: Dawes Discovery 401 2012 - any good?
Whats so wrong with the Bad Boy? Sensible gears sensible tyres.... 559.32 slicks, I read Are there no fixings on the rear dropouts? I havn't found a very good picture. The top rack mounts are perfectly OK using P clips, and Tubus for one make rack mounts that fit on the R. skewer. Not ideal for a w...

Re: Dawes Discovery 401 2012 - any good?
Thanks for the replies everyone :) I did mean the 2012 401 when I asked- the hardtail. I would love to try a horizon or similar but I have never ridden a drop bar and not sure theyre for me- think i prefer an upright position. I'm currently torn between the following- which is best value for money ...

Re: Dawes Discovery 401 2012 - any good?
The 401 is stodgy on the road in comparison, unless you want suspension, I would not recommend it. 2012 401 has no suspension http://www.dawescycles.com/p-549-discovery-401-gents.aspx Looking at the spec it's not too bad, nothing special, however I would lower the gearing (change of rear cassette a...

Re: Dawes Discovery 401 2012 - any good?
Thanks for the replies, much apprieciated. I was looking for a 501 but I can't find one in my size 22" for a low price- it also looks like there is no 2012 501? Did they discontinue it? What do you think of the 301 from 2011?- how far away is it from your 501? http://www.dawescycles.com/p-273-d...
