Re: Do we really understand what’s happening to the cycle trade?

They got greedy and folk voted with their feet, Specialized are a prime example they had a hybrid with a very poor specification with a high tensile steel fork at £650, they also cut their dealers margins by 50% by going direct to the public but the consumer pays the same price buying from specialized as they do from a dealer. They wanted one dealer to repair the motors on the levo bikes that had issues for £20 per repair, the shop refused point blank and specialized got arsey and told them that if they did not agree to do the work that they would no longer supply them with bikes. This shop had been a specialized dealer for over 35 years and told specialized to do one and rightly so. You see e-bikes priced at £1500 and the exact same specification minus the motor and battery is £1000 cheaper for a non battery bike. Prices have risen by around 40% and specifications have been massively downgraded on a grand scale, how many bike companies sell bikes with shimano hubs and cranks across the range?

Been in Go Outdoors today some real bike bargains to be had with some over 60% off RRP, saw one bike reduced to £1000 from £2350.

Re: Cycle Retail In Meltdown.

Looks like Wiggle and Chain Reaction are going into liquidation, think Chain Reaction are one of the biggest online retailers in the World, things must be really bad and i fear for a lot of small independent cycle shops.

Re: Trek District 1 Equipped Lowstep - worth the money?

It is a very heavy bike for the money to be honest, take a a look at the Cannondale adventure range as well.

Re: Cycle Retail In Meltdown.

It has never seemed to be the same since the takeover and merger with Wiggle, lots of bargains but all out of stock, not used them for years to be honest but their returns policy used to be very good, once purchased a bike off them and it came in a huge box with no packing but very surprised that their was no damage to the bike to be honest.

Re: Planet X Returns

I ordered 3 sets of tyres on 3 different occasions and they sent the wrong ones every time, i had to go through Paypal to get a full refund on the postage, you can never ever get to speak to anyone on the phone, their customer service is trash on a grand scale, used to buy lots off them but never used them since, looks like i am not the only one either.
