Re: How hilly is Hadrians Cycleway?

Thanks. I think the hill out of Greenhead is one of the Grade 5 climbs. Have adjusted the privacy settings to public now which should make it viewable.

Re: How hilly is Hadrians Cycleway?

I'm worried my legs won't be up to it. There's a couple of grade 3 climbs and a grade 5 climb! it says the grade 3 climb is 5 miles long!!! Not sure I can push for that far! :D

Re: How hilly is Hadrians Cycleway?

I've done MayMyRide routes and day two looks the worst. 1936ft of ascent in 43 miles, but all the ascent looks to be in the last half of the day. But I have no idea what that will actually equate to on the ground.

To give an examp,e of a typical local route for me, 20 miles and 200 ft of ascent.

How hilly is Hadrians Cycleway?

Looking at doing this over five days on my recumbent trike. So max of 43 miles in a day. I know I can do this distance as ive biked 45 -50 miles before. But I live in the Flatlands and have never tackled a hill on my trike. They're not the best for climbing. There is a very short 20% hill near me an...

Thanks. Think I will stick with my idea of heading along the Rhine towards Düsseldorf then.

Re: Ideas for week long continental tour?

Another option I guess is take the car on the Dover/Calais ferry or Dover/dunquerke and drive somewhere and do a circular tour. Don't think I could afford to take the car on the hull to Rotterdam ferry.

Ideas for week long continental tour?

I'm looking for suggestions please. The main criteria is to be flatish. Ive got a recumbent trike and it's not good on the hills....neither am I actually! :D I live close to Hull so had been thinking of getting a ferry from there to Rotterdam or maybe Zebrugge. But a ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo...

Re: Getting to Germany with bikes

I'm planning on doing this next year and after some consideration I'm going to take my car on the ferry and drive to Germany. Find somewhere to park the car for a fortnight and cycle a circular tour. I may possibly cycle a linear tour and train back to the car. It means I'll be less stressed about h...

Re: Looking for inspiration/ideas for a tour in Germany.

The Rhine route appeals from an ease of navigation point of view, but I just worry it might be a bit industrial scenery??

Plus I'd have to cycle one way and then back rather than a loop.

Re: Looking for inspiration/ideas for a tour in Germany.

Thanks for those ideas.

I've done some googling About Munsterland routes and found the 100 castles route which can be split to four different loops. It looks a strong possibility.

Looking for inspiration/ideas for a tour in Germany.

I'd like to take my trike to Germany and do a tour of approx 10 days. Main requirements are; Pretty countryside. Flattish, my trike is quite heavy and is harder work than a normal bike uphill. Ideally a circular route but if not then ends somewhere I can get a train back to the beginning. I'm assumi...
