Marin Valley Alp - stolen from Morecambe, Lancs

Stolen from my garage overnight within the last month.

Marin Mill Valley Alp hybrid. Satin black, alloy frame, mudguards, rear rack, 700c wheels, Avid V-brakes & levers, Sora groupset, 24 speed. Straight handlebars with bar ends. Rode lovely too!

Doubt it will ever come back, though.

I'm trying to help out a fellow member who needs a 7-speed rapid fire gear/brake lever for cantis.

I have a spare Deore XT (ST-MO92) r/h lever. Does anyone successully use this lever with cantilver brakes?

Thank you in anticipation.

Re: L`Eroica Brittania

I rode it too. Hats off to the organisers for a superb weekend. Considering this was the first time the event has been run in the UK, it was remarkably well put together. A challenging route (I rode the 56 miler) and we were lucky with the weather as in rainy conditions it would have been a whole different ball game. Highly recommended, nonetheless.

Re: Pictures of your bike(s)

My touring bike: frame custom built for me in 1995 by Tony Oliver when I was the CTC's Touring Officer. Reynolds 708 main tubes/Columbus SP forks and rear stays. 26" wheels. Built it up myself, although Chris Juden fitted the Stronglight headset for me (he had the tool, I didn't) and swapped me this custom steel rear rack for the alloy Blackburn rack I originally fitted. Rides like a dream unladen and just as well fully laden.

Still have my original order form plus the build sheet supplied by Tony, with measurements to five decimal places!

Re: Restoring 1936 Merlin frame

I have a period (pre-Bob Jackson) Merlin frame - complete with grease nipples in the head tube and bottom bracket. It was professionally re-sprayed by C & G Finishers in Liverpool some years ago. They did a lovely paint job and fitted with the proper period transfers. C & G may know where to obtain the correct transfers. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send you some photos of the frame if you'd like to see them.

Re: Dawes Horizon - suitable for full touring?

Reynolds 708 frames?...... I think that it wasn't great and seamed to loose its 'springyness' as soon as you sat on it.

Absolute nonsense! I have a Tony Oliver custom built touring/expedition frame made with 708 tubing and it's a joy to ride all day, laden or unladen.
