Re: Advice for a First Time Audax Ride
That's an interesting account there beachcomber. I have used gps for a number of years, mainly for walking in the hills and for geocaching. I am only just starting to use it on the bike but have found it very useful so far, however, I have not followed a track, only a route. When planning a route on Memory Map I usually put a waypoint just before any junction that involves a turn, then I hear a beep as I approach the waypoint which is great. I read somewhere else that following a route uses up the batteries far quicker than following a track but I have a few sets of rechargeables so no problem there. I will have a go at following a track to see how I get on.

Re: Advice for a First Time Audax Ride
Thanks for the reply eileithyia. I have tried the search facility but didn't find quite what I was looking for.
I'm probably going to start with a 100km calendar event, maybe either November time or I may leave it untill the new year, see how I feel.

Advice for a First Time Audax Ride
At 64 years of age I'm just getting back into cycling after many years of just doing short local rides. My cycling fitness is gradually improving, I've done several rides lately of 40+ miles and I'm thinking of having a go at an Audax ride of !00km when I get a little fitter.
I think I'm ok with nutrition and the like but would like some advice mainly on the navigation side of things. I have a Garmin Colorado 450 that I have been using to record my rides and would use that to navigate. Is it better to use a route or a track for that type of thing? What sort of info is required for Information controls? Any other advice would be welcome.
