Re: Ban Politics from the forum

I think self-editing by intimidation very dangerous. I feel paranoia creeping all over me. I would like to raise some subjects here and now but feel intimidated. I feel threatened. Seriously. I feel myself shutting up. Wow,now I know some things you can't raise. Speaking just for myself, this is why I left Labour - fear. You know you can only raise some topics that the thought police want you to raise. You have to pick up by intuition those you must not. Frightening.

Re: Ban Politics from the forum

I tend to think it very unwise to ban anything, well that which is written or spoken. That which is spoken or read can highlight suppressed news or behaviours that are seen as inappropriate. I would like to highlight some here again, but from the banning view or finding topics offensive,I'm now going back to 'hiding mode'. It really is intimidation. From what I have read here I have found no posts offensive(maybe the moderator has extracted inappropriate posts). I guess if any posts are that offensive, let's call the police. Wow,how repressive to have thought police about. Howsoever I shouldn't be shocked, some debate must never be had...ever. Is it too late for me to bring in my reservations about humour. Any humour. I have a link here. I don't find humour funny. Isn't humour always at some beings expense? This, too,is intolerable+++ :(

Re: Handicaps of becoming a commoner

With us all living longer, much longer(even more longer for the Royals),it might not be that strange to see Prince Andrew(aged 101)stopping by the local fish and chip shop to see his grandson in the queue. Separated from the Crown(where the money is)they might be behind CUKs younger folk. Or living next door. Cod and two chips, anyone?

Handicaps of becoming a commoner

Just read Prince Andrew is getting a little concerned that in a generation his off-spring may well become 'commoners'. I guess it sells newspapers. But for a nano second I can understand his angst. Just think, there he is a-jetting this way and that, being saluted,reverred,respected,kow-towed down to...but after his daughters give birth, well they could almost going to the local compo with you and me. Maybe living in a council house(if they can get one) Must be worrying. There's your other half(soon to be King C)got his offspring lined up for the dosh and the palaces and wotnot...but his offspring off to Slough in tele-sales. I can understand how there were real fights for that crown in olden-days. Can you put yourself in Price A's shoes? So say the rags he's trying to get some changes so's that his heirs get some titles and dosh, you can't blame the lad. I mean with Danny two-fists Dyer having royal connections, how far do you have to sink(no offence Danny!)
Looking from afar I'm willing to get out and play two violins for Prince A: no full orchestra. I guess this increasing realisation (that his offspring are on the way down)isn't pleasant to eat with your cornflakes. So near to the dosh and palaces, but palaces and dosh leaving soon :(

The worse thing is none of them seem to have any brains( I think even I might have more!). Future doesn't look too good.

Sympathies(but not too many)

Re: Did anyone watch the John Pilger...

Yes, watched it and could understand why China might begin to feel a little threatened. But then again, wotsabout USA surrounding Russia+++ Still you have to find a use for all that military hardware you are making, and which is making ££££ and employment! War can create biz+++you just don't want to be on the losing side!

I'm always surprised at the 'educated'(scientists and boffs)so willing to take the dollar as to experiment on human beings and other animals. That and to make killing equipment, chemicals etc. Still, when you have a family to feed and a career to climb, status and science can excuse all arguments as both are excused as being 'neutral' :D :(

Alas my memory falls short on all that the American military and military scientists(supported by US government)have inflicted on the lower orders. I think syphilis was purposefully introduced and covertly followed in US 'blacks' not so long ago, blindness being of special interest to research. In a scrap book I have cuttings how the US introduced chemical and biological weapons in the Korean war. We have Vietnam and Agent Orange. And in Iraq the plutonium tipped depleted so-and-so anti-tank rockets...or was that the phophorus bombs(I get so mixed up)

Of course we had(still have?)the Porton Down jobbie. I think they 'experimented' on the armies lower ranks at times: I think they were eligible for compo after being dead for 120 years(maximum compo £200).

Fortuitously we have stand-ins now to use the weapons we make(anyone for SA?). I think some of the middle-east agents can pick up and learn from recent 'torture-techniques'...or should I call that 'enhanced interrogation' techniques. With our 'software'(legal expertise, clever blokes, clever laws)we can also dominate Justice so's it can be....well,anything you want it to be! (And we can pick the judges -the Aces in the pack!)

Re: Rail Ticket Office Closures.

I can understand those who choose to use contactless,howsoever...this gives the excuse to the authorities to up the fares for those who don't...or can't:those without adequate £££ in accounts, the elderly, those unable to manage their financial affairs, the disenfranchised. Arguing against myself,I guess this happens now...with power providers,Brighthouse! When you are a 'little embarrassed' you wont get help but a good kicking. Disabled in any way you have to pay more

Re: Rail Ticket Office Closures.

I guess I am too suspect.

I have been told train guards have been told to stay away from contactless whilst working: the machines can clock something from your card when its unnecessary.

Same goes if travelling with spouse. S/he buys ticket for other half. At either end both are docked for the trip. Yes,it could be corrected...if you are vigilant enough...or prepared to argue with the telephone/authorities involved for 7 weeks or more.

Machines never lie. Mmmmm....not so say the post office masters who went to the slammer or topped themselves when wrongly accused of fraud.

Re: Two Threads culled in two days

I well remember the olde teashops of yore wherein everyone was respectable and conversation moderated. No talk about...well,almost anything really :(

Morning Harry.
Morning Sid.
Talking stops. 2 hours pass. A clock ticks. Munching begins. More silence. A chainset is mentioned.
More silence.
If it was a talkative day the price of milk was talked about....for 1 minute
Then silence

I think it woz those good olde days wherein I used to think about going out to a motorway and throwing myself under a lorry. That or come back to my garage to put my head in a vice to tighten! Happy days...

Re: Rail Ticket Office Closures.

I wonder if 'the dream' of railway operators will be to have completely unmanned stations and driverless/guardless trains. Herein everyone will be expected to download their own tickets via their apps. When booked wrong or found to be at fault, the eye-in-the-sky or ticket machines will stop you entering or leaving the train station until you tap in your bank account details when you will then be charged a surplus or fine. Any try at cash transactions(at station)will not get the reduced fare promoted by having the credit/debit card(basically, you will be caned more for offering cash) Blind, disabled, elderly people, those demanding that little extra help, may have to pay more: why should they be subsidised by those are demanding less? A couple of control boards at 'Central' will monitor all things on tv screens: Big Bro.
For those fearing man-less stations or trains, anxieties could be reassured by the constant announcements 'You are being watched for your safety' with the blinking red eye of the camera twizzling overhead

Re: Are you a vegan?

Can I join in the fun to hunt down and trip up vegetarians? I'm not doing much this afto.

Only joshin!

But here's a thing;the human condition. I guess we're killing machines anyway. I was thinking about bacteria and virus. Why take any medication when you know it might kill tens of thousands of other living creatures, living beings who want to live, want to replicate, have relatives, sons and daughters etc.

At the same time, haven't we got living but unseen mites in our eybrows, over our skins. Wash? And kill them! The innocents. Then we have our thoughts: why supress some bad thoughts with 'good',killing in whose name?

I guess being veggie must work by differentiating the hierarchy of that killed(please, not Brexiters!),and mostly avoiding seen animals. The difference between and animal and a vegetable is....?

Re: Theresa May's 'Brexit means Brexit' catchphrase is meaningless, Tory minister admits

One of the benefits to biz is the casualised workforce: zero hrs, short term contracts. Not very nice I would say. Still, for a migrant better pay than back in Bucharest. Being 30 and single also helps...flexible, adaptable, willing to settle anywhere in the country and share a room. Unfortunately these jobs are located in the least prosperous parts of the country so that once again the jams take the hit with pressure on their roads and services and pay

On the positive side, because of the excess labour getting helpers in Richmond has never been easier. And migrants add vibrancy and texture to the neighbourhood when waiting or dining out.

The more people to London the more house prices rise.

Lower house prices may come thru building on green belt land

Re: Discriminated against for the way I travel?

HM gets £300K stolen from her residence say. Police come, blue lights flash. 20 officers involved in resolving crime.
Homless person has his hat stolen. Reports it to police. How many officers do you think will be involved in resolving the case?
On a ratio of need + relative money/assets to individual I would warrant the homeless persons stolen hat equals that of HM's wealth, thus 20 officers should be engaged. Still,we know the implementation of the law doesn't work like that: status, power, position and the sum of property involved warrant the attention you get. Conversely, the poorer or more disadvantaged you are or have been, the more likely you are to be convicted and go to jug
