Blue-bike bicycle rental sharing system in Belgium

Blue-bike is a brand new bicycle rental sharing system in Belgium. The bikes are a bit sturdy what makes them suitable for short bicycle trips in and out of the city. They can be found in or near 41 Belgian railway stations. More and more of these bicycle rental terminals are now being automated. In...

Re: Doing a mini trip in Belgium, route advice appreciated!

First 2 little remarks about earlier posted answers. Ravel, that's only in Wallonia, not in Flanders or Brussels. And between Ghent and Bruges, there's no Scheldt but a canal. Some (parts) of these stretches are interesting to inlcude, bringing you away from the national roads: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Bruxelles-Brussel-Charleroi-Thuin-Maubeuge-Fourmies-Hirson-Guise http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Arleux-Douai-Marchiennes-Saint-Amand-les-Eaux-Bl-haries-la...

hostels/cheap digs entire route Think of http://www.vriendenopdefiets.nl , 19 euro pp/pn. Every village (!) in the Netherlands has a few hosts. In Germany and Denmark they're less, but well located on your stretch between Amsterdam and Copenhagen: https://maps.google.be/maps/ms?msid=215743440519068...

That's very similar to the prices you'll pay if you stay with one of the hosts of Vrienden op de Fiets.

Re: Paying subscription to Vrienden op de Fiets

There may be a lot of criticism about the Euro and the Eurozone. But there's at least one advantage. Even very small payments are executed without any problem or extra cost.

Re: Paying subscription to Vrienden op de Fiets

This link will tell you (almost) everything: http://www.vriendenopdefiets.nl/pages/en/index.html Let's say it's sort of small scalish b&b. With private families offering one or two rooms to cycling tourists. Not for free (it's Dutch ;-) but for a modest 19 euro pp/pn including breakfast. Some re...

Re: Paying subscription to Vrienden op de Fiets

I'm pretty sure in the end everything will be fine. Probably they're struggling a bit with the increasing number of foreign members and the transition from a local association to a more international organization. The most recent numbers I picked up spoke about 70000 members and 4500 hosts. Not that...

Re: Free Bicycle Map of the Ghent Harbour Zone (Belgium)

Can you point me to an online map of bike routes covering Roosendaal (Nl), Hoogerheide (Nl) and Kalmthout to Antwerp? I found one which for LF2 but it wasn't too detailed. Hopefully you will be aware of something better. Thanks, JJF Probably you are not referring to these 2 maps? http://www.routeyo...

Free Bicycle Map of the Ghent Harbour Zone (Belgium)

Brand new bicycle map, covering the northern half of Ghent and the Port of Ghent itself. The harbour and the sea canal are not that easy to pass by bicycle. The green lines on the map indicate the best ways for pleasant cycling. Map: http://www.oost-vlaanderen.be/docs/nl/8i/9979fietskaart%20haven%20...

Re: Amsterdam to Copenhagen

When it comes to accomodation, 'Vrienden op de Fiets' has hosts in nearly every Dutch village. Even in Germany and Denmark, you will find some families in the places of your itinerary, including Copenhagen: http://maps.google.be/maps/ms?hl=nl&gl=be&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=2157...

Re: Places to stay in Amsterdam

Or try one or more of the hosts of 'Vrienden op de Fiets'. Last week I got my 2012 copy and it lists 34 families in Amsterdam.
http://www.vriendenopdefiets.nl
Most families however have only one or two bedrooms available.
