I was just wondering which way most cyclists take when doing a circular ride. I tend to choose a clockwise direction. An anticlockwise route would probably make more sense as there will be fewer right turns but somehow my brain chooses a clockwise route more often than not.

Re: Yearly Totals
I managed 1900 cycling miles in 2022 ...but only 20 miles in the whole of December mainly due to acute sciatica pain for most of the month. Still ...it's better than the 1700 miles I managed in 2021 ...1800 in 2020 ...and 1300 in 2019 ...give or take the odd mile or two in each year...!

Re: West of England Combined Authority E-scooter trial
Portsmouth City Council is currently trialling the pink Voi e-scooters in and around Portsmouth. At first they were governed at 10mph but after a month have now been increased to 15mph. There seems to be 100s of them now everywhere. Many of the users have no road sense and are riding on pavements, roads and cycleways often with no regard for other users. Nobody is policing them. I've seen them with children on board, 2 or more teenagers on board (see below), teenagers and children driving them alone!
The machines all have a 4-digit reg no. made up of letters and numbers. You can report any illegal infringement to Voi on their 'support' website. However the reg no. field does not recognise letters only numbers! Their site also informs that if a user is reported 3 times only then will they contact them.

When a person completely unknown to you asks inappropriate questions then it becomes necessary.
Perhaps they're just being friendly ...and not a nuisance...!

It's a 'club' thing. When I wear what they wear I get acknowledged with a passing 'hello' or a nod of the head. When I'm wearing t-shirt, shorts, and sandals whilst cycling (as I most often do) I too get ignored ...if my 'hello' doesn't get a response I mutter under my breath 'stuff 'em!' ...or something similar...!!

Aren't Electric Scooters illegal?
I thought electric scooters were illegal but since lockdown I've seen them increasingly everywhere. On roads, on pavements, in precincts, overtaking me when I'm cycling, undertaking me when I'm cycling. Some with 2 or 3 people on board, some with children and toddlers on board. No lights, no helmets, no warning bell, no hi-viz clothing. Very often going at speeds well in excess of 15mph. They're a menace! With winter and darker days and nights fast approaching I fear there will be carnage in the streets! You don't hear them, you won't see them! In a city where I live 5 miles by 3 miles with nearly a quarter of a million people swelled by 20,000 university students returning it's a disaster I fear that may just happen!

We'd like to think that Velocio would have been proud of us 60-somethings (nearly 70-somethings) enjoying cycling 150 miles in Germany

Touring with Velociped
In October 2016 I was approaching a significant birthday and my wife asked me what I would like as a present. I decided almost immediately that I would like to spend a couple of days cycling along the Rhine. But how?
We thought of organising everything ourselves including taking our own bikes but it all seemed rather complicated. So instead we went online to see if there were any companies or organisations that may hire bikes for such a journey. And we found one: Velociped
Everything was done online without physically talking to anyone. We chose the size and type of bikes we required. We were sent the detailed itinerary (all in German of course). All we had to do was get there.
We flew into Frankfurt and took a train to Mainz, our first hotel was just around the corner of the station. We were introduced to our bikes in the basement with our names on. The bikes, sturdy hybrid tourers like our own bikes, had panniers attached with basic tools, spare inner tubes and locks included. The lights were powered by efficient dynamos when needed.
The next morning we left our packed cases at reception as we went down to breakfast. After breakfast they were gone! We joined our bikes and off we sped 21 miles leisurely to Rudesheim. The scenery was glorious and weather was fair, though the back-pedalling breaking system took some getting used to. We popped into Elteville for lunch. Mid-afternoon we reached the beautiful medieval town of Rudesheim. When we arrived at our hotel we found our cases miraculously waiting for us in reception!
This was the pattern of our next 4 days cycling along the Rhine ...leave our suitcases at reception ...go down to breakfast ...cases gone ...cycle through some of Germany's beautiful scenery ...castles ...medieval towns for lunch ...arriving at each hotel to be greeted by our cases ...Rudesheim to St Goar ...St Goar to Koblenz ...Koblenz to Bad Godesberg ...Bad Godesberg to Cologne (via Bonn) our final destination. 150 miles approx ...and all mainly flat!
We have cycling friends in Cologne so instead of heading back home immediately at the end of our Rhine Tour we decided to stay on a few more days in Cologne and Velociped allowed us to keep our bikes gratis until the final day when we handed them in to the nearest Velociped friendly hotel in Cologne.
Every year since, Velociped have sent us their brochure of both self propelled and guided cycling tours, not only in Germany but now also in virtually every country in Western Europe. For further info, here's their website: https://www.velociped.de/en/all-bike-tours/europe.html

Ride with GPS
I was looking for a phone app to record my rides, not to plan my rides.
I tried other Cycling phone apps like Strava, Map my Ride, etc. and they would invariably want me to share my information on other media
Then I thankfully discovered Ride with GPS (find in Google App Store)
It's free, it allows me to record all my rides, CTC, U3A, Charity rides, constitutionals, and rides just with fun and family, and doesn't ask me to share my rides elsewhere
It also records a host of other facts and stats of each ride I undertake (see pic)
So if you're looking for a simple ride recorder ...that's free ...look no further

Re: How should I vote in the AGM
...I have just used the AGM VOTE NOW links in this week's Cycling Clips...
"Help shape the future of Cycling UK... There are just eight days to go until our AGM on Saturday 7 May – and our members have a real opportunity to shape the way that Cycling UK is run so that we are able to fulfil our potential to improve and support cycling. Our board of trustees (or Council) is proposing to make changes to our governance to make our board leaner and to help unlock the talent and experience we are certain exists within our 67,000-strong membership to help run our charity. Our chair David Cox and President Jon Snow tell us more about this great chance to shape our future and share details on how to vote online. VOTE NOW"
...by far the easiest way to vote and appoint your proxy
