Re: Cycling UK conference and agm

https://www.cyclinguk.org/bikeweek perhaps it could have been a date outside of bike week? starting at 4.00 pm seems bit late. It's the final event on the day's agenda - the idea was to get people (members and non-members) to come along for the volunteer day, then those who aren't Cycling UK member...

Re: Cycling UK conference and agm

Does anyone know if this is in addition to the Autumn get together that's been run for the last few years (Under several names) or instead of? I've attended and enjoyed all the Autumn ones which have been making their way North - Warwick>Birmingham>Manchester>Harrogate. If this is the only one this...

Re: Old bicycle book PDF

Excellent! :D Really good little book! :D Reading the bit about Lighting-up Time, it seems at odds from what I understand about the law now. Yes, LuT is one hour after sunset for motor vehicles, but bicycles must be lit at sunset. I'm sure I read this on the forum somewhere. Not quite: motor vehicl...

Re: Cyclesurgery Highbury?

Cycle Surgery is part of Outdoor & Cycle Concepts, which also owns Cotswold Outdoor. They recently agreed a CVA with their creditors to stay afloat. According to this news article, Cycle Surgery in Highbury is one of four shops being closed down in the restructure. https://www.retailgazette.co.u...

Re: Hidden message(s) on Open Street Map

Is the profanity flag editable? If so you make a “test” cafe, and flag it as a profanity (without using one)... Oh yes, that's certainly possible, but I'd feel a little guilty about creating bogus information in the OSM database just to satisfy my idle curiosity. It would have to stay there for day...

Re: Stronglight Bottom Bracket Cup Stuck

Does anybody know a decent bike shop in Hampshire or Berkshire that can assist? Winchester Bike Hub , a not-for-profit social enterprise in Winchester city centre, where I can very occasionally be spotted behind the counter or at a workstand. Fairly sure we've got one of the Park SPA-6 adjustable p...

Save up a few more frames and make a sculpture like this for the stairs:

Re: Rim tape

That does happen with canvas tape, especially if it's been used in the wet a lot. Normally takes a few years though. The stretchy hard plastic stuff is a lot more resilient, if harder to install in the first place.

Re: Membership by phone

It is run in-house. Responding to phone calls does still seem to be an issue and this is a handy example I can mention next time I'm talking to the relevant director. Flinders, do you remember whether you were dialling the general enquiries number (ending in ...300) or the membership number (ending ...

Re: Hidden message(s) on Open Street Map

[...] OpenCycleMap usually lags a few days behind the main OSM database [...] Last month, it seemed to me that it was taking about three weeks for OSM edits to appear on OCM tiles. There is no simple answer, apparently. According to the wiki : Update cycle The database (as of May 2010) is updated u...

Re: Hidden message(s) on Open Street Map

But surely it's doing a bit more than that in that the "graffiti" doesn't appear on OSM, only on OCM? Unless of course you are able to edit OCM as well/separately and someone has taken the opportunity to do that. Well... interesting, that. The dodgy location we're talking about was marked...

Re: Hidden message(s) on Open Cycle Map

Trap streets aren't really something that OpenStreetMap does: anyone is free to copy the data for free provided they acknowledge it, so there's no real benefit to "pirating" OSM information as there's no licence fee to avoid.

Re: Hidden message(s) on Open Cycle Map

And yes, it is easy to mess about with it. So there are probably lots of messages tucked away at any given time, but there's always someone else getting rid of them. I've always thought that a moderator had to approve any changes to the Open Street Map before they're published. Obviously not. Thank...
