Re: Cycling UK (CTC Tours) LEJoGs 2018

I've done this tour three times and might (just might as I was seventy four the last time) someday do it again. I've heard of one man who's done it fifty times. It's a fairly tough ride but not unreasonably so. Going toe to top takes you through different counties and different scenery with each one and you will love Scotland. Personally I think doing it with an organised group is better than alone. You have lots of people you probably have never met and it's fun finding out about each. Some will remain friends thereafter because you share a sometimes tough common experience. With the CTC tour you dont have to worry about booking accommodation and there is a support vehicle with a very helpful and experienced driver. Half the fun of the ride is the Bon Ami between the group. You wont forget those you ride with. Of all the UK tours the LEJoG is by far for me the best one.

Exactly. That is how moderation differs from censorship. I would almost certainly have complied. High handedness only puts peoples backs up.

Greater good, a community, and all that.

Put "Great Glen Way" into the search box and this topic will come up. It doesn't need to be in the heading unless you are a person who only searches headings. Which I don't recall being a default.

I dont think the part I was interested in is The Great Glen Way. In any case I wanted to hear from someone who had ridden it.

For what it's worth I've been posting here for ten years no one has altered my wording on any post. Graham has twice in one year without discussion and then he disappears. He says it's to help other posters. Pull the other one. He does it because he's a control freak and it's a racing cert that it will happen again.

Well any excuse is better than none.

Moderation is supposed to be just that. Not censorship.

Anyone know this path

ukdodger wrote:It's on the West side of Loch Ness alongside the A82. Is it a made up path or dirt & gravel?

Graham wrote:I changed your title to try to help the forum users. ( As suggested ).
EDIT : also highly relevant for searching for historic post.

Yours was a particularly generic title for a highly specific request.

I am not going to notify individual posters when I change a title, although you are welcome to get in touch if I judge things incorrectly.

You again Graham. I cant help wondering who you think you are to be playing teacher. It's mods like you that overstep their remit that send posters away.

I posted with that title so as to arouse curiosity. Not so that it was specific. Why dont you just butt out and mind your own business. You're just a jumped up poster not the board owner.

Re: Anyone used this path?

andrew_s wrote:If you use cycle.travel to plan a route along a track (click start, click end, change route by click & drag), you can click on the route and "show photos" to view nearby images from geograph

note the map below the image to show the photo location

There aren't always suitable images available, but it's generally worth while checking.

There's also a streetview option for the on road sections of a route.
It's quite a good route planner too. A slight limitation is that it won't route along a track that's marked as a footpath on OpenStreetMap, even if it's actually a good unsurfaced road (eg here, OSM updated since)

Excellent thanks. I'll keep the link for future ref.

Sorry. No offence meant. Just wanted to make sure the local experts saw your thread (and given that I know nothing of that area...)

None taken. Sure you meant well. I just dont like my posts being reworded without being asked. I've got the answer I wanted.

LollyKat wrote:The Great Glen Way site has some information, including a Route User's Document that you can download. Briefly, it's cyclable but mostly paths, forest roads and tracks, not much tarmac. How much time have you got? :D

I think that's done it LollyKat. I'll stick to the A82. Cheers for the link.

I've been down that side and it's hilly and longer so thought I'd try the other side. Hotel is booked that side now anyway but thanks anyway.

If so the Google car has been down some of it at least.

I dont know to be honest. It comes up on Garmin's Mapsource. On Google you can see both ends are tarmaced but what of the rest. I'm not a fan of gravel but scared of the A82.
