Re: Isla 24" geometry for a bamboo build

Nice work! I was looking at the higher end stuff as he's been doing big distances. But still, I've just given the boy a sizing. His saddle is set right for the cranks (he's grown so they can go +10mm) and I added wooden blocks for him to get his toes down. 45mm as previously stated. Narrower tyres w...

Re: Isla 24" geometry for a bamboo build

Find me some narrow 507 tyres. 40mm was the smallest I could find and they are no longer made in that size (Schwalbe Kojak). FYI 520 rims with 23mm tyres have a 7mm smaller diameter = 3.5mm lower BB. The saddle is higher now, kids grow, quick. But not quick enough to compensate for a BB that is so h...

Re: Isla 24" geometry for a bamboo build

PS I'm still after the Beinn dims as I'm unsure if it is the same frameset used with different components.

Thanks

Re: App with GPS Navigation

Ride with GPS but it needs to be a paid for subscription. I use it for Audax. No screen to look at. Best if you edit the cues as the Google/OSM generated ones don't always contain every junction and probably contain extras that aren't needed (where road name changes). But for ease you can put an off...

Isla 24" geometry for a bamboo build

Who's daughter/son has an Islabike Beinn 24"? Would you take some measurements for me please as Isla are the bees knees when it comes to kids fit? Last year I built a bamboo bike for my son using a paid for custom design from the kit providers. It wasn't right, the BB was way too high, the same...

Re: A blog from last summers adventure with my boy on bamboo bikes

Well we've done a micro adventure including climbing Pen y Fan from the north side last October. 2x 100km audax. R is still asking about a 150 and the other day a 200 (kiddy back tandem for that to start i think). Of on another micro this coming half term. Other shorter ones before the summer. Then ...

A blog from last summers adventure with my boy on bamboo bikes

I won't go into too many details as many are contained within. Me and R had already been cycle camping , as we call it, quite a few times; starting off with a follow me tandem before he went solo. I had an idea for the future. A visit from a fellow audaxer from the USA brought the future a lot close...

Re: Inverness to JoG on NCN1?

On our LEJOG we followed the section of NCN1 from Ardgay to Invershin (after coming over from Alness), crossing the railway bridge at Invershin One has to wonder why this addition wasn't made as a ramp from one side to the other as it would't have required much more metal (£). Sutor Creek Cafe @ Cr...

Re: Chocolate Path Bristol

I don’t hold out much hope for the Chocolate Path re-opening, as it is cantilevered out over the riverbank on ancient iron stilts and the banks are not terribly solid. It's a large masonry retaining wall, which has to be fixed otherwise the road is at risk of subsiding along with the new MetroBus s...

Re: New Record LEJOG 2018

Well done Elliott, and well done Dad for keeping the flame going even after discovering the record had been broken. Well done Joshua for cracking a record that had stood for some time, and well done Family for supporting him. This summer I was the domestique for Red the Rocket, he's my Limpet, I'm h...

Re: Penrite SF Grease for Alfine 8?

Dragging this back up as new to the Alfine 8 and need to do its first service. So from what I've read the following would be a good course of action; excluding adding an oil port as I'm happy to disassemble periodically: 1. Disassemble 2. Soak innards in a gear oil (recommendations?) and drain, perh...

Bike Buddy MK3 or similar

Any one have any experience of the Bike Buddy MK3? Want to use it for an underslung downtube fuel bottle but wary of the whole thing jumping off should I be on a bit of rough stuff. http://www.bikebuddy.co.uk/ Or does anyone have any other recommendations for a metal fuel bottle, 'cage' easily remov...

Shimano FH M525 vs M525A

Hi

Does anyone know if the M525 & M525A front hub are the same shell dimensions; L&R flange distance & pcd? Fixing a friends wheel, the cones and races are shot but the rim and spokes are in good condition, want to know if it is a straight swap.

Thanks
