Re: stainless steel cafettiere

Primus do a 1 litre pot that can be used as a coffee or general purpose pot. It is possible to purchase an 'extra' cafetierre from Primus that can convert the pot to produce your favourite cup of Joe with no hassle. I have one and it works well. It's all fairly lightweight and easy to use.

Re: Scottish weather has me freaked out!

The rain has certainly been a right pain in the butt this year but the wind has been far worse! It has hardly stopped blowing since last November. The combination of both has made Scotland's great outdoors a pretty unpleasant place to be. Worse news is, the weather has had no effect whatsoever on th...

Re: Quality tent on for sale section !

Well it is a CAMPING sub forum and probably as relevant as advertising under a sub section for 'bikes and bits'. Anyway, don't let it ruin your day.

Re: Tent suggestions - 2.5 person for cycle touring

I'm not expecting to be able to sit up in this tent. I've got family tents I can sort of stand in, plus others I can sit on a chair in. This is for shelter only. The compromise for being light and packable is not enough headroom and a snug fit for length. Well .... Not really, the compromise is cos...

Re: Tent suggestions - 2.5 person for cycle touring

I would certainly consider this one for a family tent that's still portable on bikes. http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/vango-omega-350-3-berth-tent-p140004&Pg=2 Held in high regard as outlined in the many reviews and it's big enough in terms of floor space to get a double airbed or self inflating sty...

Re: Mosquitos/Midges be afraid be very afraid Armageddon

As I said already, there is no escape. You can take certain measures to minimise the effect of the ravenous hordes but whatever you do, you should accept that the price you will pay for cycling in 'God's country' is measured in blood! Seriously though, all kidding aside........... They're goi...

Re: Mosquitos/Midges be afraid be very afraid Armageddon

I've bought one of these for this years trips. http://www.uttings.co.uk/p116100-nemo-bugout-9x9-screen-room-tarp-birch-leaf-green-nemo-cte1259/#.VGJyu2AqXIU I do a bit of canoeing so the weight doesn't matter. It would be best split between two riders if travelling on the bike. I know it gets great ...

Re: Mosquitos/Midges be afraid be very afraid Armageddon

I know there's not many of us do it nowadays but if you are a smoker you have won a watch with regards to midgie deterrents. Skin so Soft is very good but in days gone by there was nothing to beat a few hefty cigars or a pipe blowing like a farriers furnace to keep the blood sucking barstewards at b...

Plus one for the Surly. Bomproof and offers a variety of heights as well as a solid over wheel platform for over wheel rack bag or case of budweisser  . Looks cool as well. Never seen such a well engineered rack. I'll bet the used re sale values are high too.
Buy crap, buy twice.

Re: Mosquitos/Midges be afraid be very afraid Armageddon

I find the combination of Garlic and Vit B12 taken for a week before travelling to be quite an effective deterrent for Mosquitoes. But! You needn't worry about Mosquitoes on the West Coast of Scotland because the midgies have eaten them all. They will also have their share of your precious blood and...
