Re: Switzerland Route 4

I did Route 1 and 2 (Basel - Geneva) in Switzerland over a two-week period last July. Absolutely fantastic ride. Pretty flat for most of the way except when you headed towards Andermatt (Alps). I would say this was probably the best ride I have done to date -not overly crowded, scenery superb and th...

Re: Anybody recommend a ride in Kent ?

There is a NCN route that goes through Tunbridge Wells and onto the Weal of Kent to Ashford. It is absolutely stunning ride through majestic countryside and lovely local villages. A bit hilly in places but nothing too strenuous.

CTC bag - Dissemble or not?

I appreciate this topic has already been covered (I've spent a bit of time searching and found conflicting responses), but does anyone know if you have to dissemble (i.e lower handle bars, wheels off etc) or keep bike in-tact using the CTC poly bags. I'm flying with Ryanair in May, but would like to...

Re: New bike restriction on Eurostar

I emailed Eurostar about their change in policy. I received the response today which I've posted below: Thank you for your e-mail. Firstly, I apologise that we could not reply sooner; we have developed a backlog, which has hindered our ability to respond as quickly as we would like. I am sorry to he...

Re: Lake Balaton - Best area for short cycle rides

Thanks to all who have replied so far. I think I will give Balaton a miss. I'm quite well versed in Budapest and its thermal spas - I have been going on average two times a year since 2005 simply to visit the baths! Galloper - You mention Eger as a possible option for cycling. Have you actually been...

Lake Balaton - Best area for short cycle rides

Hi, I will be cycling to Danube river cycle trail from its source in Germany, finishing in Budapest. I will have 2-3 days spare in Hungary and am thinking of throwing my bike on a train and going to Balaton. My original plan was to cycle round the entire lake. However, having done some research on t...

Re: Ikea bag - suitable for putting panniers in as check-in

Vorpal - I'd say that most people using this Ikea bag would use it to check-in, not board. You'd struggle to get this blue thing on board without a doubt.

Re: Devon C2C - Taking Bike on Train

I'm a police officer with the British Transport Police, so I'm pretty much an expert to cycle theft on the railway! It is rare for bikes to get pinched in these types of trains (98% are stolen from stations), but it does happen. The bike compartment is at the rear - simply reserve your seat in that ...

Ikea bag - suitable for putting panniers in as check-in bagg

To avoid being charged for checked-in baggage for my flight, I plan to buy a lightweight largish bag in order to place all my separate bags etc (my panniers, camping stuff and clothing etc in to one bag). I had a look at a similar thread: http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=64056&p=...

Sorry, my reply to your questions related to the Plymouth to Exeter route. You should be OK with transporting your bikes to Barnstaple especially if you are not going at weekends.

Cycling the Danube River trail from Germany to Hungary, then a few days around Lake Balaton in May. In July, plan to do a bit of riding around Brittany. Cannot wait!!!

Re: Devon C2C - Taking Bike on Train

Hi there. Yes, I did this a couple of years back but the other way round. Basically, you've got two choices of trains. The high-speed and slow train. Without question, the high-speed is preferable as they have a separate bicycle compartment (normally at the rear) plus they are faster! The problem wi...

Anyone travelled with bike on German ICE trains?

Hi, I emailed Duetsche Bahn to ask them if I could take my touring bike on board their trains (in a bike bag). I received the following reply: On trains operated by Deutsche Bahn, every passenger is allowed to travel with one piece of hand luggage as well as one additional piece of luggage. You must...
