Re: Cleat wedges

Is there an equivalent of the SM-SH20s for MTB SPD cleats? 2 washers (1 on each bolt)? Although they may not grip well enough unless you can find ones with some serration (or roughen them) to "bite" on the sole of the shoe. Thanks RickH. I'd considered that but couldn't find anything serr...

Cleat wedges

On my road bike shoes, which are fitted with SPD-SL road cleats, I have fitted a couple of the Shimano SM-SH20 cleat spacers (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-sm-sh20-spd-sl-cleat-spacers/rp-prod131323) to my right shoe. These have made a huge difference to my foot and leg comfort and have...

Brake / STI compatability

Are Shimano CX70 canti brakes compatible with Shimano Tiagra 4500 9 speed STIs? I've read somewhere (can't remember where) that the CX70s work fine with the latest version of the Tiagra (10 spd 4600) but performance might be compromised on the older (9 spd) version. Is there any truth in this? If so...

Re: Exal LX17 wheels with LX hubs

Thanks for the replies. I'd all but decided to go with the Exals but wanted some sort of feedback before I made the purchase. I had contacted Spa via their website and I've just received the following reply: "Althought the Sputniks are strong and very durable, they are heavy. I think that the L...

Exal LX17 wheels with LX hubs

The 36 hole Rigida Sputniks with LX hubs I'm currently running on my Dawes Galaxy are ready for replacing and I was looking for something a little lighter without compromising on strength. On the face of it 36 hole Exals with LX hubs seem to fit the bill (Spa Cycles sell them: http://www.spacycles.c...

Griffin Bicycle and Tricycle Yearbooks 1870s-1880s

I'm researching the history of a nineteenth-century bike manufacturer and was recently given a series of facsimiles of the above yearbooks in PDF format. They're an absolutely fascinating resource, crammed full of intersting articles, reviews, news and articles of all the latest models, accessories,...

Re: Does anyone have a copy of this book?

Hi Did you find anything out by any chance. I own a house in Pontypridd and there is a Morris Bro's Cycle plaque out side on the wall. Would love to find out some history. Wow! That's very exciting. I'm researching the history of the company and have amassed quite a lot of information over the year...

Re: Chainset configuration

Thanks for the replies. According to the technical document, the front mech will handle a chainset tooth difference of "15 teeth or less". It handles my compact chainset, with a tooth difference of 16, without problem and it did the same with the 13 tooth difference on the 52/39. So unless...

Chainset configuration

I'm currently running a 10 speed Shimano 105 compact chainset (50/34) on my road bike with an 11-28 cassette and am thinking about changing the inner ring from a 34t to 36t. I've never quite got on with the 16t difference on the compact between 50t and 34t. I've tried a 52/39 chainset but that was a...

Re: Which headset?

Cane Creek have a headset finder which I have found to be over-complicated, and these people also work to the SHIS system of sizing. Full Speed Ahead do a good range of integrated headsets and if you click on the links to 'Technical Drawing' or whatever finding a replacement headset can be quite in...
