Re: plumby's JOGLE

Hi guys
rp id indeed a gentleman. Thank you a million James. The good news ends here.

I'm currently sat outside a new build housing estate in Shepshed just 17 miles left to go. My right thigh/knee has imploded and I simply can't take the pain of pedalling anymore. I'mstruggling to walk. The last 10 miles have been the worst I've ever had. I guess it ends here. Im so gutted I don't really want to carry on typing. I never saw myself failing but I can't abide the pain anymore.

But James you are a lovely man! Next time I'm in Buxton we'll grab a coffee with you and your good lady!!

Thanks again.

Re: Whaley Bridge diversion

So decided to follow the route I made on RWGPS (thanks for all the advice!!). The first thing I'm going to do tomorrow when I get there though is to see if Awkright road is open to see if I can get to New Mills.

Had a 115 mile day today. I should do an update but just wanna eat and crash. 120 miles tomorrow.

All good tho.

Re: Whaley Bridge diversion

Thanks rareposter. I'll definitely follow that route. Is there any chance you could map it on RWGPS for me??? I'm struggling to do it on my tiny phone!! Hey no worries if not. Thanks man.

Had a snapped pedal today, otherwise great ride

Whaley Bridge diversion

Thought I'd start a new thread. I need to get from Newtown to Buxton avoiding WB for obvious reasons.

I've come up with this hilly alternative! Can anyone suggest something better? If you have a RWGPS account and you could map it that would be fantastic! It took me an age just to do this on on my phone...

Re: plumby's JOGLE

Day 3
Left Kinguisse in mist and fog which then literally just disappeared to leave hot sun all day. Shadowed A9 to Pitlochy and Perth through some genuinely stunning countryside. Real contrast as some of the A9 shadow road is like a billiard table then miles of loose stone. Nice 20 mile climb to the top of Drumochter summit leaving Kinguisse but it was very gentle.

Had a mare at mile 68. My route was meant to take me to A9 cycle lane but its been closed due to a new bridge being built. Ended up cycling down the side of the A9 plant road and the crossing (!) the A9!

Rest was great riding, Perth looked very nice. Getting some jip in left knee but hey ho. Bottom bracket noise seems to have gone.

Had two very big climbs today. Kelty a big one.

Re: plumby's JOGLE

Thanks everyone for your comments and to the Derbyshire lads!! Really appreciated, truly. I figured out my bluetooth is losing connection with my Gps so should be working tomorrow fully.

Day 2 random musings

On the whole a great day. Had a light breakfast at B&B in Inveran and then headed to rejoin cycle route 1. Stayed on that for about 70 miles when I then took cycle route 7. Shadowing the A9 was brilliant and crossing Inverness bridge just strange. It almost felt like I shouldn't have been on it. Think I have been sunburnt too!
Also realised why GPS keepa crashing. Its losing its bluetooth connection with phone.
Cycled through Aviemore which looked like some town you'd see in Austria. Really want to go back one day. Looked commercial but in a nice way. Was dying of thirst at anout 70 mile mark then a farm shop appeared in Tomatin. Quite possibly the best Dr Pepper ever.
Really great day of cycling. My bottom bracket seems to be knocking a bit but I'll sort when I get home. There's no play in cranks so should be fine.
Holed up.in Kinguisse, burger and chips at Joes Chippy. Need to find some vegetables tomorrow - note to self. No ensuite which is a bit of a shocker as I love a 3am pee much to my constant amusement.
First 20 miles are on an upwards trajectory tomorrow according to the profile. Woo

Re: plumby's JOGLE

Brilliant thanks for those directions!! Gonna check them out later when i get to Kingussie if i have wifi. Are you local rareposter? Any chance you could update me when/if they reopen before Tuesday?

Yeah i noticed that. I dont know why its doing that. Never done it before i can only assume that when the cellular signal drops the nothing it has a wobbly. It does t hammer my Samsung galaxy at all.

Its a wahoo elment bolt. Not the colour one
In turns of navigation its the best ive ever used. It just works (ignoring the above paragraph)

In a tiny village called Tomatin having a dr pepper listening to TMS

Inverness bridge was amazing!!

Re: plumby's JOGLE

No, his name was Noel. Top bloke. After 100 miles the gps still had 3rd of its battery life. Awesome piece of kit. Enjoying food in Evanton currently.

My day 6 route takes me through Whaley Bridge. Anyone suggest a detour? Its just before 42 mile marker:

Re: plumby's JOGLE

First 10 miles were just effortless. Adrenaline I think. Then a broken spoke 3 miles past Thurso forced me back to Thurso where the guys at 'The Bike Shop' literally stopped what they were doing and sorted it. Real class that. He said I had my marathon pluses over inflated for my body weight (12 stone) and their rigidity was putting too much pressure on spokes. Then spent probably 30 mins taking pictures. Stunning scenery, felt like I've been in a Emily Bronte novel all day! Met some guy walking a trailer around Scotland. Gave him a flapjack. Lovely soul. Have really enjoyed my 108 miles so far. A bit sore but comes with the territory. Really wanted to stop at Crask Inn but was already 90 mins behind so settled for fish n chips in Lairg. In Inveran now.

Well its started. I'm here in JoG, bike built and enjoying a spud with lashings of wifi in the Seaview Hotel. Nothing like solo dining when everyone else is in couples!

Bike survived the best efforts of the Royal Mail. Seen probably a dozen end to enders today. Eager for the pedal off tomorrow AM.

Thanks everyone for the route guidance. Ill update tomorrow assuming I have wifi in Inveran. Random pictures of Day 0.
