Re: Di2 - setting up gear ratios

This is getting tricky because 105, Ultegra and Dura-Ace Di2 is all 12-speed so you're not going to get a 12-28 11-speed cassette working with it. That's just not going to happen.
I was only considering the Ultegra 11 speed (r8050) which is still available, new in some online outlets and 2nd hand on ebay. Definitely not keen on sacking the existing setup for a brand new 12 speed.
As you say, Grx is only recommended for cassettes with an 11t top gear.

Re: Di2 - setting up gear ratios

I've read that the R8050 will work with large chainring size between 46-53T with a total capacity of 16 - so that should be compatible.
the 11-34 cassette with either 36-52front or 34-50 have a very different profile to my current combination which has a much more linear spread.

To clarify, I want to retain my current gearing - Dura-ace 12-28 11speed + FSA ultra compact 30-46 I just wondered what different combinations Shimano offer in their software that would be close enough

Di2 - setting up gear ratios

I have read that when setting up Di2 in order to use the synchro setting only a few variants of cassette / chainring sizes are available on the e-tube app - despite Shimano making many different cassettes, most are not listed. Is this still the case? If so, surely getting the system to synchronise effectively can't be achieved if you are using a cassette or chainring that's not listed.
I'm toying with changing my 11speed Ultegra setup to Di2 but I have an ultra compact chainring (30/46) an I want to know the pit falls before splashing out

bizarre sights on a ride

On a long ride through the countryside of Somerset and Dorset yesterday I was cruising down a remote single width lane when as I rounded a bend, I saw a stationary car in the middle of the road, the driver door wide open, the occupant in a contorted stance, leaning over the dry stone wall on the side of the road. My mind went through my rusty first aid knowledge and what might be the problem but as I got closer I saw that she was leaning over the wall with her arm outstretched like an olympic disc thrower - the disc in this case was a mobile phone as she was taking a selfie with a horse in the adjacent field. :D What bizarre and random things have people seen on a cycle ride?

Re: Tutshill sluice Yeo crossing works

North Somerset Council are saying "Tutshill greenway is currently closed. We are finalising legal agreements so that the remaining works can be completed. All sections of the Pier to Pier Way are expected to be fully open later in 2023."
Surely they will be announcing a grand opening when it does finally happen?

Agree - (152g according to Road CC) I wouldn't want it stuck to my helmet. I was considering attaching it to a rucksac shoulder strap as I would only want it for my commute rather than the leisure cycling I do which tends to be on quiet lanes. That would involve some experimentation and probably creating my own mount so its a bit of a risk buying the thing without knowing if that would work. I am reticent about having to get 2 bike mounted cameras; the expense and all the faff that goes with charging them, turning them on etc but in researching cameras and looking at a lot of youtube vids I feel that having both a front and rear view gives a much clearer picture of any incident and I would think that the police would feel that too. So, I am still in 2 minds about what to do at the mo.

I am looking at options for a 'safety camera' and given the cost of Cycliq Fly would be interested to hear any feedback on this (Techalogic) or similar front and rear facing cameras. Like others have suggested on this thread, I would consider mounting one on a rucksack strap rather than helmet.

Re: Litter Pick

Cheddar Gorge an impressive natural feature is strewn with rubbish, mostly coffee cups and cider / beer cans that litter the verge for the entire 2 mile climb. I have seen someone, a volunteer not a council employee, filling black bin bags and when I cycle up there I always vow to come and do the same but as yet I haven't. It would need a lot of bags and take most of the day. My son who is keen on bouldering at various sites in Dartmoor, north Wales and The Lakes has recommended picking up just 5 items of rubbish wherever you go. This policy makes a lot of sense and its one I will follow in future.

I have an Exposure Sirius and it was on constant. Part of his yelling included "why don't you f******** dip your f******** lights, you little c*****"
i conclude from that that he considered my light to be too bright and so decided not to dip his.
That seems quite a key part of the story, that you initially ommited!
I thought that in my original post I stated that 'I wiggled my front light at him in an attempt to make him dip"
(sp - omitted)

It is difficult to know the mentality of the oncoming driver; sometimes they may be unsure of what is ahead of them and so flashing onto full beam or momentarily moving your light into their eyeline signals that you want them to dip, which they then do but on this occasion it would seem that it was a red rag to a bull.

Blinded by the light

I had an unpleasant altercation with a motorist this morning. He approached me with lights on full (7am unlit country lane) I wiggled my front light at him in an attempt to make him dip to no avail. I had to slow right down as I couldn't see anything and shouted at him as he passed to dip his lights. He then stopped, turned round and drew along side me yelling threats and obscenities. My policy when someone adopts this type of threatening behaviour is to not antagonise them further by entering into any kind of response - I'm alone on a quiet country lane on a bike and he is in a 1 tonne steel box. He then accelerated to be in front and slowed in order to block my way - I didn't try to overtake. Then he drove ahead, did a 3 point turn and came back, lights on full and blaring his horn as he sped past. Annoyingly it seems that I only partially remembered his reg plate - needless to say there is little point in reporting it without the correct registration.
I am now thinking that I should in future just accept that some motorists will not dip lights for bikes. Do others here just put up with the occasional blinding in order to avoid conflict?

Different device but my review https://psamathe.net/alterlock-cycle-security-review/. I sent my one back for a refund and not bothered to look further as I'm no longer convinced they provide useful additional security.

Very useful. Thanks. The devise you tried does seem very similar to the Leopard Lync - there are a number of others - all seem to be start-up companies sometimes crowd-funded never established manufacturers who could perhaps invest more heavily in R&D. Your comprehensive review certainly does not inspire me to get one - at least not at the moment.

Leopard Lync bike alarm - review?

Hi,
Having had an expensive bike nicked in the past, I'm always anxious when I leave my bike in town, no matter how many shackle locks I put on it. The thought of being alerted on my phone should someone start messing with it in my absence would give me peace of mind. So an electronic alarm and tracking devices seems to be a smart idea. I haven't found a user review for this product so I would be very interested to hear if anyone has first hand experience of this device
