Have train reservations just got more difficult?

Hi all

Until this month I've been using Transpennine Express or Scotrail to book journeys with my bike.

However, trying to book a journey just now, Transpennine Express (and GWR, Chiltern who use the same system) seem to have gone through a redesign of their booking system and whilst you get the option to book a bike there seems to be no way of checking whether you have been successful before you pay for the tickets, and on paying, it seems I was unsuccessful!

With Scotrail, the option to book a bike is also there, but the number is greyed out and cannot be changed from zero.

This might be a problem which only applies to multi-leg journeys (possibly only even where one leg carries bicycles without reservation). My ticket is from Wemyss Bay to Barrow-in-Furness.

Has anyone booked a multi-leg journey with a bike reservation without problems since this month's timetable change?

Thanks

Jon

UK Trains - Online bike reservations

Hi

For years I've been using the East Coast online booking system whenever I need to make a bike reservation, but they have just withdrawn this facility and require cyclists to phone a call centre which can be very time consuming. Can anyone recommend another website which allows you to make UK wide bike reservations online?

Thanks

Re: New bike restriction on Eurostar

If the policy is "Every passenger can take up to 2 medium-sized items (85cm at their maximum length)" presumably that means you could take a cardboard box 85cm3
If so a 120cm long folded bike should just about fit diagonally in the box.
Anyone know a source of 85cm3 boxes?!

Re: New bike restriction on Eurostar

To confuse things further, the big poster at check-in at St Pancras yesterday (24th Feb) said that folded bikes were OK so long as in a bag <120cm, whilst a notice at Gare du Nord said all luggage should be <85cm!
