Re: 11 speed for touring?

It's (probably) only madness if you are planning disappearing into the middle of nowhere for months on end. As you don't seem to be doing this I wouldn't worry. One problem sometimes talked of is thinner chains being less robust. Dunno, discuss. That was my thinking. Most (all) touring of any kind ...

11 speed for touring?

Currently looking at fitting a new Groupset on my Ultra Galaxy. At the same time as building some nice new wheels. A quick question. Does anyone here use 11s for touring? What is the general opinion about such a mad idea?

Re: Rohloff on a Dawes Ultra Galaxy

I bought a standard kit from Rose in Germany when I converted our old derailleur tourers to Rohloffs. I have some pictures of the conversion somewhere. This kit routes the cables along the top tube, down past the rear brakes with a little adaptor that fits on the left hand v-brake bolt. A neat way ...

Re: Rohloff on a Dawes Ultra Galaxy

By way of further wittering whilst I plan this upgrade/change, call it what you will, I initially looked at a few configurations to see what the best option for my frame set was. My first thoughts were to have an external change as this looked to be the neatest option, but it seems as though this wi...

Re: Rohloff on a Dawes Ultra Galaxy

Just as a side line question - I didn't realise it was possible to put a Rohloff hub into a "groupset" geared bike - I thought Rohloff's needed to go into Rohloff designed frames (does this make me stupid? )... so why do manufacturers bother making both versions? For a standard non...

Re: Anyone use a trailer ?

Good to know your mods work well. AdyJapp " 10 hours on the bike and 90 miles" I was wondering where you had got to as one of the people with these things who had done some mods wow.90 miles all in one go? with a trailer? surely not? The very thought is a nightmare. Given that it was a ch...

Very interesting. That gives a bit more flexibility (potentially) with rim selection.

cheers

That's new. Can't see that on their web site?

Re: Rohloff on a Dawes Ultra Galaxy

I'm forming an idea of retrofitting a Rohloff speedhub (non-disc, internal selector, with torque arm and tensioner) to my 2008 Dawes galaxy, built onto a Mavic A719 rim (with the recommended Sapim spokes). I'd marry this up with a Co-motion shifter on the top of the drop bars, and initially probabl...

Re: Anyone use a trailer ?

It's been a while since I posted here, so though I'd give a very belated update on the performance of my 'cheapo but upgraded Bob Yakkalike' trailer. My main trip this year using the trailer was to be a few days away at the Tour De France (Yorkshire), and I was to carry camping gear, food and quote ...

Re: Anyone use a trailer ?

When fitted, it not only fitted well, but seemed to have less lateral play than the original. Figure 15 shows that it fits without obscuring the pivot screw for the latch, and Figure 16, is with the latch in place. Skew20140114_002.jpg Skew20140114_001.jpg I have had this on the bike, but didn't hav...

Re: Anyone use a trailer ?

..and on we go. Skew20140114_013.jpg Skew20140114_014.jpg Figures 13 and 14 show the completed assembly, and looks as though, this might work(!) Skew20140114_015.jpg Skew20140114_017.jpg I'll more than likely stick a dab of Loctite on the threads of the screws to keep them in place before I use this...

Re: Anyone use a trailer ?

Continued... So, as per Figure 6, I removed the bobbins, put them, the original M5 bolts and washer aside, and kept the lock washers. Skew20140114_008.jpg So, the idea was to utilise the skewer in exactly the same way as the original. The original fits as per the Figure 7: Skew20140114_003.jpg In or...

Re: Anyone use a trailer ?

As promised, here is part 1 of my trailer fettling exercise! Might as well post more photos as I modify. I'm sure I'm not the only one doing this... :) So, the initial skewer that came with the trailer is as pictured below (Figure 1). Skew20140114_004.jpg So I wasn't entirely convinced by the origin...
