Re: SRAM 1X Groupset?

I've been using a bike with Sram Force 1x11 for the past 15 months now and ...it just works... There is the odd occasion when I could do with a higher or lower gear, but that occasion also comes with 2x11 at times so it's really a case of horses for courses. What I like about it is not having to decide if I should shift into the big/wee chainring, also the added bonus of not dropping the chain on the BB. According to Strava I've not been any slower on this bike than I an on 2x11.

Re: Vehicles parked on cycle lanes

We've all got it wrong... Cycle lanes aren't for cyclists, they are there to provide a safe place for motorists to wash their car wheels

This was what I had to contend with today

Petition to block Owen McDermott's poorly informed petition asking for cycling taxes.

Re: Genesis Bikes

I'm about the same size as you and a 54cm would be too big. I've 2 Genesis bikes, a Skyline 52cm and a Volare 20 50cm. Pics below for reference

Re: Pace

This is an interesting topic for me. After a 25 year gap in my cycling I am once again bitten by the bug and enjoying pounding the roads although my advancing years have left me somewhat disillusioned at my average speed. 25 years ago I could easily average 22mph and at the time I remember lots of young roadies thundering past me as if I were sitting still. Today sadly I cannot reach anywhere near the speeds I used to achieve and my average is now 16-18mph. I've been riding single speed for the last couple of months to save the gears on the summer bike and help with my cadence and I am averaging around 15-17mph depending on the amount of climbing I do on my routes.

Here are a few examples taken from my Garmin over the last few weeks

24.10 miles 1,374 ft elevation 17.0 mph average
33.40 miles 2,059 ft elevation 15.7 mph average
88.98 miles 5,141 ft elevation 14.8 mph average
33.40 miles 2,059 ft elevation 15.7 mph average
37.49 miles 2,409 ft elevation 14.8 mph average
31.23 miles 1,837 ft elevation 15.2 mph average
22.74 miles 1,353 fe elevation 15.9 mph average

This is all on my single speed, my hope is that come the better weather and I bring the gears back onto the road my average speed will be up nearer the 20mph mark, but something tells me I won't be anywhere near my goal.

I guess I will just need to keep pumping the pedals and building up my strength and see how it goes come the summer

Re: Quick piece of route advice (A82)

The A82 is horrendous at this time of the year, the B862 is a good road and was a great surface the last time I was on it a few years ago, nice and quiet compared to the A82 with fantastic views across the loch and the Foyers Falls make for a great place to stop and have a break.
