Re: Trustee elections 2017

As I understand it, there are four places up for grabs. One position is to be filled by 'the establishment' and the other three positions are to be balloted on from a choice of eight. Trouble is, which eight? If there are more than eight applicants who decides on the eight people 'suitable' to be fo...

Re: Velocharger

I bought a Velocharger at the 2017 York Rally. I couldn't get it to work at first but after fiddling with the connecting wires and reconnecting, it works fine. Bought it to charge my Garmin whilst cycling, only problem is that when the bike drops below 10 mph, the Garmin asks me if I want to switch ...

Re: Compulsory Helmets in Local Group.

Just to clarify the helmet wearing for the Sheffield CTC group. Helmet wear has always mirrored the national policy, ie that it is down to the individual. A few years ago, a new member, who is a keen and experienced mountain bike rider, wanted to introduce mountain bike rides to the group, but she s...

Re: CTC AGM 2017

The same article on page 14 of the recent edition of Cycle states "Beyond our campaigning efforts, our AGM helps to guide us on the effective administration of our 138 year old organisation, it helps to steer our governance etc etc." At the 2016 AGM a motion was passed stating that applica...

Re: An update on Cycling UK's Board of Trustees' elections

I can confirm that a CUK member of staff or trustee wearing a black CUK T shirt sat near the front on the right hand side of the room DID insult members of the organisation by using stereo type comments. The Chair who was deputising for the regular chair was way out of his depth and tried to ignore ...

Re: Name Change?

Once the CTC became a charity it was utterly predictable that it would ditch the old name. Chasing grants from the government to provide amenable jobs for employees will now be the CTC's main aim, just as it is with many other 'charities'. One of the most sensible comments I have seen on this forum...

Re: Technical officer

The cycle touring community is a very small minority of the CTC membership these days although some of that community seem to think it should dominate other members' interests because of its history. Unfortunately real life is not like that. Yes and the cycle touring community within the organisati...

Re: Name Change?

Gaz is right, I was NOT talking about Philip Benstead, the person who (thankfully) leaked the information is still a serving councilor. Though his card will be marked now.

I can't wait, they deserve everything that is coming. Oh and I hope that many of those people who read of this in Cycle, travel to Derby on 7th May to voice their concerns how this whole sorry mess has been handled

"The petitioners have not been ignored - the poll voting slips will be sent out in the June/July issue of Cycle in compliance with Articles 11.2 and 11.3, But also decisions made before the petition was received at HO can still be carried out in compliance with Article 11.4 which is what appear...

Re: Name Change?

So according to 'Cycleclips' the CTC officially becomes Cycling UK on April 5th. ;

The 600 plus members who petitioned for a ballot of the full membership have just been ignored, disregarded and insulted.

Ladies and Gentlemen, your new Cycling UK ENJOY IT!

Re: Communication with CTC Councillors

Rebranding is a major issue, not only should they have put this to a full ballot, tbey didn't even scope the members properly before implementing. They claim they contacted 2,000 people, less than half of these were current members. They are determined to impose these changes whether you agree with ...

Re: Communication with CTC Councillors

To quote a once popular song by Bananarama "It aint what you do it's the way that you do it" The way that they 'did it' gives us all an insight into the way things will be done in future at Cycling UK or whatever they change the name of this once great club next time round if unsuccessful....
