Re: Using a GPS? Using other people's courses?

Iv'e got a Garmin Edge Touring and was similarly perplexed initially. If all else fails, the one thing that works on this device for all kinds of files, GPX track or TCX course, or Garmin FIT... is to save them somewhere on your PC, hook up the GPS, which will be recognised as like another storage ...

Re: Using a GPS? Using other people's courses?

I might be totally wrong but,,, Go on BikeHike Course Creator and plot out the route. Save it as a .TCX Copy it to Basecamp and then upload it to the unit. Worth a try. Thanks, Garmin Connect has a course creator as well.. although the process is quite laborious, and open to making errors… I was th...

Re: Using a GPS? Using other people's courses?

Thanks folks… I found ridewithgps, a bit odd. I was able to export the course to files, but these refused to upload to my device.. I don't know that if I paid the $10 subscription if this would have resolved the situation, with the promised upload direct to Garmin. I was unwilling to gamble 10bucks!...

Panniers with TopStraps..

I was wondering about Panniers, with Top Straps, rather than hooks or clips. I have recently bought a bike in the Evans sale'. This bike is a continental Trekking style cycle. It has a very unusual rear Rack design which does not use a tubular construction; but a strong moulded angular sectioned to...

Re: Medical issues and VAT exemption on bikes.

I phoned HM revenue today. I have to say it was a very dissatisfying use of my time. I phoned the free 0300 number; and having had to wait ages and select multiple menus and having had to listen to drivel; when I got the right section; I got the message "For disabled enquiries phone this 0845 (...

Re: Medical issues and VAT exemption on bikes.

The answer may lie somewhere in here: http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageImport_ShowContent&id=HMCE_CL_000184&propertyType=document This refers to disabilities but it might be a starting point. 2.3 seems to say it is for...

Medical issues and VAT exemption on bikes.

Hi, Does anyone know if it is possible to get VAT exemption for a new bike, if you are cycling to help with chronic medical issues? I suffer with type 1 diabetes and psoratic arthritis; and am finding the benefit of regular cycling in managing these conditions amazing... My insulin pump was VAT exem...

I am wondering about Bolusing on a long ride. I assume that you don't need to bonus for the carb snacks on a ride. but as a cycle tourist, cafe stops are a must.... Do you Bolus as normal for a lunch stop?

Re: Cycling with Type 1 Diabates: Insulin Pump.

Cool. I was feeling really rough, and put it down to work stress. I wasn't cycling, or had time to do so, so started a lunchtime run which lead to me feeling awesome. It became a bit of a live joke at work. (IT analyst at the time), save the difficult questions until after lunc, then through them a...

Re: Cycling with Type 1 Diabates: Insulin Pump.

It was really running that made me go and get the diagnosis. Whilst with hindsight I'd had the signs for a month or so I put them all down to stress. Then I ran a race that I'd done repeatedly for years, always putting in a good time. I came last, by a considerable margin. The penny dropped and I w...

Re: Cycling with Type 1 Diabates: Insulin Pump.

I've had Type 1 diabetes since 1996. Having been very active all my life, it came as a great shock and I recall being very cautious about what excercise I would do, constantly worried that I'd end up in the ditch unconscious with a hypo. At that time there didn't seem to be much information easily ...

Re: Cycling with Type 1 Diabates: Insulin Pump.

Hi tlinford I have had diabetes type 1 for 34 years and used an insulin pump for 1 year until the buggers took it off me (financial issues). Depending on what model pump you use, there may be an option to temporarily reduce the basal rate (long acting insulin dose) whilst you cycle. This will help ...
