Re: Bikes and air pockets (General not technical)

If you can, maybe watch this https://www.channel4.com/programmes/speed-with-guy-martin Episode one he cycles behind a truck if I remember correctly, I think there's a bit on aerodynamics. I would scroll through to find the relevant section but would have to watch adverts first and more if it's after...

Re: Road Safety Outside Schools

Go to the local paper suggesting that the school are threatening to hold you liable for any injury that may occur if you approach the school to challenge them on their own bad parking outside of the school putting their pupils at risk. That letter is terrible. Does it even address the issue that the...

Re: One solution to tailgating?

I always think learning the stopping distances at various speeds for the driving theory test is rather pointless, what you need to know is what physical distance that is in the real world. There's no point knowing a number of metres if you have no idea how far that actually is along the road to the ...

Re: Bike frame price increase after order placed and paid for legal?

There is a cycle company somewhere whose boxes have a picture of a flatscreen tv, even though it contains a bike, people are more careful with them and they suffer less damage in transit.

Re: Intentionally struck by vehicle - what recourse?

Maybe try reporting it as an assault, as it wasn't an accident, was there any damage to the bike? Maybe report it to the bike scheme so they can check it and claim damages if there are any.

Re: What's the legal position?

Suppose a cycle commute takes 60 minutes a day, the same journey by car is 30 minutes a day. In order to get the same exercise within the same time frame one would have to work twice as hard exercising at home or running from home, for the 30 minutes they've saved off their journey, unless the gym i...

Re: What's the legal position?

Those repair costs are surely more than the 4 year old bike was worth though, it depends how bothered they are about arguing about it, but they could just make an offer for a similar replacement off ebay. It's up to them though it's not huge figures so they may just pay you the repair quote, or even...

Re: What's the legal position?

I had a friend who got a fault on her driving test for not checking her left mirror when turning left, I can't quite remember whether it was the reason she failed and therefore a major fault or not. I would argue that judge mentioned up thread is wrong, you can't put blame down to who hit who can yo...

Re: Total And Utter Disgrace

Surely the council are destroying evidence by filling it in that day, did anyone go back and undo the repair to see how bad the pothole was? Perhaps the relevant section of road could be closed until a full inspection has taken place and photos etc taken. It seems a flawed system, repairing them onl...

Re: School Run

I'm sure when I used to work for my Dad on his farm, people used to move their cars out into the road to try to stop us driving along it to get to our fields, this was in a small, rural village, surrounded by nothing but farmland, but also an area noted for people moving to from the busy conurbation...

Re: People shouting 'left' 'right' etc on a cylce path whilst approaching from behind

Maybe there could be a clearly presented code of conduct, perhaps with fines for people not following it. If there were some large clear signs on the entrance points to the shared space, people would know what was required of them and maybe think twice about their actions.

Re: ITV4 is driving me mental with bad 'PDC' and 'Series' tagging

For the cycling highlights, how about manually setting it to record the right channel all evening every night, then deleting it once watched, assuming you're only ever going to be a few days behind at the most. I've also got an old Humax box which seems to have been ok so far. I did have Virgin Medi...

Not exactly a cycling story, a rooftop drugs farm has been raided after being spotted on the coverage.

Maybe spectators get out of the way of them more, the way cyclists are only one wheel wide to some motorists.

Think I lost mine in a house move, think it was tucked behind a wardrobe, inflated for storage as per the instructions.
