Ex-RAF waterproof trousers from eBay - just check the sizing. I paid £18 for mine, and have a second set cut down as 3/4 length shorts.

They're not advertised as (because service gear can't be branded as such) but they are Goretex.

How do you stop your oats from welding to the pan? Ziploc bags of porridge with some powdered milk, and then you only need to use the pan for heating water. There's also something therapeutic about warming your hands up in the morning on a bag of porridge before venturing any further into the day...

Just reviving this thread to suggest tubeless as an alternative. I've had two flat in a year since going tubeless, and one of them was a dented rim and the other a sidewall tear.

If you can find a sale, the Mountain Hardwear Lamina 35 is a great purchase. Mine gets used from March to November, and it packs down small enough to go in a drybag on my handlebars.

We took the old A74 to Abington with an overnight just beyond Lockerbie, and then rode to Carnwath, which has a great bakery.
